Since the Anchorage RV Park closed a few years back, as the owners turned it into a very nice shopping mall. No one since then have stepped up to put in a real nice CG. Since the closing we have been staying in Palmer. However they recently closed the Homestead CG where we have stayed on our last two trips. Local power company bought the property and plan to build a substation on the land.
Staying north or south of Anchorage works for us and we take day trips into town if we need to be there. Anchorage is just another big town, very little Alaskan about it anymore.
Most of the campgrounds in town will works for a night or two, but Anchorage is not a destination for most RVers. If I needed to be in town for a couple of days, the Golden Nugget or Ship Creek CGs would work for me.
