I don't like spending others money, but if you were going north of Edmonds wouldn't the $85 be worth not having to drive through Tacoma, and Seattle/Bellevue, less than that if you calculate out the fuel. I think you could also miss a boat or two and still come out on the time.

The OP is from Cailf and I would think he/she has no problem with traffic and thus is not afraid of it or towing in it. But if they want to have a ferry ride as a great tourist trip then the the ferry is a good idea...but the quicker/cheaper way is the Bridge.

Well not thinking of traffic as driving issue, thinking of traffic as a time issue!!!

Driving south through Seattle/Bellevue (their choice), Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Bremerton/Silverdale is going to be a time sponge.

Just map Quested the routs, 2h 7m taking the ferry, 2h 57m driving around through Tacoma. I call BS on Mapquest, maybe at 10:00 PM, not a one hour difference during the day!!!

Well if you go south to Tacoma and take the Narrows, you also need to take the Hood Canal to get to Squim.

If you take the ferries, you can take the two ferry route Mukilteo to Clinton and Coupville to Port Townsend. That or drive a bit further south and take Edmonds to Kingston, then over the Hood Canal floating bridge.

With Sequim as your destination Tacoma Narrows is the shorter of 2 major bridges. Hood Canal is longer and only 2 lane - and floating and mostly close to the water. Puget Sound has lots of peninsulas and islands. Sequim is on the Olympic Peninsula. The bridges go to and from Kitsap Peninsula. And depending on the route you could also drive on Brainbridge Island or Whidbey Island.

No, I didn't. Figured if I had to take a bridge to get there it was an island.

Drove the Narrows Bridge for years. I have no qualms about towing across it in the spring/summer. I'd echo the sentiment that you do not want to be in the far right lane going northbound. It exits very shortly past the bridge. The second to the right lane is the appropriate one for towing, but you will have to merge left or exit a little bit after the point where the carpool lane opens up to all traffic.

I prefer going US 101 to SR3 through Shelton, Belfair, to Bremerton. Nice easy drive, not very winding, and also quite scenic. But I'm usually coming from the south.

Not going to argue the time/fuel issue, I think for my money unless the Tacoma Narrows bridge crossing was on the bucket list the ferry would be a great way to avoid driving through Seattle or Bellevue, and Tacoma!!

I worked out of Bellevue for years and serviced the Olympic Peninsula, I always had a current ferry schedule on the sun visor of my van.

What about reservations? I know they have for the San Juans.
