While things can happen here I really wouldn't say a person needs guns here. Things are different here then down south. I bring my 12ga and usually a .22 more for plinking then anything. I do like having guns with me just in case but they have never been needed yet. I have had a friend attacked by a grizzly while on the trail but that is rare. You have to decide it is worth your time and effort to bring them but be warned you may be turned back.
