I would leave it home. It just encourages a "more thorough search" according to the guard I spoke to about guns. Pack Bear Spray for critters large and small. It must say Bear Spray or the like. It cannot be personal defence spray. We picked ours up at Canadian Tire last summer. A little more pricey in Canada, but it was reassuring to have. It must be declared for the return trip after you've been in Alaska. I kept the reciept from our trip up, showed it at the border and all was good.
