Thread for weight issues this season for F250 + trucks

Can anyone crossing this season with a Pickup truck over a F150 report how it went? Which crossing and whether it was a hassle or if you were sent off to customs, etc. or had your door sticker inspected and so on. I will keep bumping this up or I will ask the admin to pin it.

Also if you could let us know what is says on your registration with regard to weights and if you got the permit on line or in person.

  • Anyone heard of any problems getting a TIP for a Ford E350 Club Wagon?
    ..Graydon
  • I know the guatemala border is especially sticky.

Here is what Mike just forwarded to me:

    Hi Mike,

    Just a quick FYI.......
I now know of 3 persons with 3/4 or 1 ton pickups who have rec'd their TIP after applying online.
    1. Mine is a 1 ton with Alberta registration..... no weight info on registration
    2. Friend with 3/4 ton from British Columbia where the registration shows the vehicle GVWR
    3. Friend with 3/4 ton from Nevada who uses his Title which shows GVWR

No issues getting a TIP for any of these, and all were well over the supposed 7,716# limit.

Keep any incidents coming, it would be nice to know which crossings still have issues.

My partner is seeing the director of tourism on Monday and on Nov 12 will meet with officials at the Reyonosa crossing. That is also about the date I am going to cross at Nogales, although with Mikes info I may do it on line.
  • We just hosted a German couple here in Colorado that we had met on our way down to Guatemala - they continued on to Panama and back, only to spend 5 days in Guatemala trying to get back into Mexico at Tapachula. Finally managed even though SHE SPOKE FLUENT Spanish, having lived and worked in Monterrey in the past. This was in the past 60+ days, so good luck!
  • I saw a post on facebook that Mexico Mike has had some reports about people getting TIP's sucessfully on line this season with 3/4 & 1 ton trucks. i have emailed him for more info.
  • They issue TIP in La Paz out near the ferry terminal but no main aduana office perhaps. Reported here that a couple of vehicles were refused TIPs there because of weight+commercial use so obviously the workarounds aren't universally useful

What they don't issue is FMMs so a few unwary souls have had to head back north to get one.
  • Bump. I am in contact with somebody who has 3/4 ton who is going to try for a it at the Mexican consulate in LA in the next couple of days. I asked him to post here and let us know what happens. H ei sheaded to the ferry a La Paz. I do not beleive there is an Aduana in La Paz, so they may deny him there like they did to at least 2 others in Spring, unless he can get the permit at the consulate.
  • Here is some new info.

If, they say you can’t go inside like normal tourist, you will have to take your truck to a AGENCIA ADUANAL and under the REGLA 325 you can aks for a T9, and they will do the paper work so you can enter Mexico with a big pick up ( more than 3.5 tons)

I have spoken with 5 different AGNECIA ADUANAL and that’s what they said,

But 99% chances you can enter like we used to
