I drove it in our old motorhome with 11 foot height, and I remember nothing even scary in terms of clearance. East Texas I-10 was pretty chewed up, but west Texas is smooth.
Do remember that I-10 in west Texas is some pretty lonely road. I have driven early morning for 45 minutes without seeing another vehicle. In some places, roadside fuel stops are about 60 miles apart. Your nearest station might be 30 miles of interstate plus 15 miles of surface road. Many of the stations visible from I-10 are permanently closed.
Last year, I was caught in an unexpected snowstorm in west Texas. Traffic got light as the snow started to cover the road. Then the trucks disappeared. Then everybody else disappeared. Then the road became completely covered with no tire tracks. Between the hypnotic flakes and the solid blanket of white, I had trouble determining where the road went.
I was concerned about parking and getting stranded, so I drove at about 10 MPH and used the rumble strips along the edges to keep me on the pavement - the snow was probably 6-8 inches deep. After about half an hour, I drove back into rain, and was on my way again.
Stop and eat at the restaurant at the El Capitan hotel in Van Horn, Texas. You will thank me.
