- padredwNomadThis is our preferred route to Colorado, though we join US 287 at Henrietta, Texas. We almost always stay at the Ole Cotton Gin RV Park at Goodlett, Texas. We have stayed several times at Rocking A in Vernon. Either of these is only an overnight for us. Somewhat prefer the Ole Town Gin for an overnight. Starting in Fort Worth, Amarillo might be a better place to stop. We have stayed most often at the Overnight RV park in Amarillo.

This is a great place to stop for overnight near Amarillo. It has 24 hours security and free WIFI. We have stopped here on our way to Colorado/Wyoming for a few hours of sleep. - tatestExplorer IIIt is about 5 to 5 1/2 hours on US-287, less than 350 miles. I'm not sure I would do an overnight stop. Copper Breaks State Park is at about the halfway point, and there is a commercial RV park in Quanah (have not stayed there, my Quanah destination is the state park).
Next place of any size is Childress. I know it has motels, don't know about RV parks. - BB_TXNomad

Easy day's drive to Amarillo. Don't know that you need any place to stop between Ft Worth and Amarillo. Around 5 hours driving time plus stops.
That would be for people who start from the Houston area. Not every one lives in Ft Worth.
The OP's question was Ft Worth to Amarillo. - agesilausExplorer III

We really enjoy Old Town Cotton Gin RV park. Been there twice and will go back if ever that way...
There are 2 very nice state rest areas on this route. One is near Quanah and the other near Hedley. Also there's a good RV park at Goodlett, Ole Town Cotton Gin RV. - dons2346Explorer

Slightly off topic but isn't the Big Texan Steak House in Amarillo?

- BB_TXNomadYeah, it is US 287. A very good highway. We take it every year on our annual trip to Colorado. Four lane divided and bypasses all small towns between Decatur and Chillicothe. Then you start getting some lower speed limits and traffic lights thru the towns.
