- 2hamsExplorerThanks. Will take the suggested route.
- +3 on avoiding 30. And if your goal is to travel the Lincoln Highway, do some research first. Much of the Lincoln Highway has now been bypassed to go around cities, like York for example. The old roads are still there they are just not signed as Rt 30 anymore.
- 1775ExplorerDon't take 30. Going into Gettysburg you are driving through small towns with traffic circles in the middle. I don't like driving this in a car. We take 283 to 83 to 581 to I81 also. 30 around Lancaster and then into York is fine, but once you go beyond toward Gettysburg and then on to Chambersburg it is not that good especially for a large vehicle.
- gboppExplorerUnless there is something you want to see along US 30 you are better off taking PA 283 to I83 to 581 to I81 south.
It's quicker than taking 30.
Taking 30 is a fair amount of stop and go traffic and a mountain to climb. The road is good but, a lot of it is 2 lane.
If you're not in a hurry and want to travel the Lincoln Highway, take US 30.
Enjoy your trip.
