Visa & Wal Mart

Makes no diff to me,,I use debit card for everything..or cash..

I think it has a lot to do with Walmart wanting people to use there walmart rewards mastercard, more than any other reason.

Nofrills stopped accepting visa cards in Jan. They only accept there PC mastercard

I agree with you Sue, to me the 'tap & go' card is a recipe for disaster but then I'm not a techie by any means. I really like the security of the regular chip/pin cards.

My bank now issues both Visa and Master Card credit cards with the same points perks so I think it's just a matter of time before before Visa relents on their retailer rates for premium cards which is where the issues lie.

I still have my original non-chip card that needs to be swiped and still use it at all retailers in Canada, including pay-at-the-pump. No problems, other than the cashiers who are confused by it.

Some cashiers in stores figure I'm senile and tell me to put it in the chipped card slot, one tried to grab it from my hand (at Walmart) and scolded me for swiping it. Maybe she was too young to know about the non-chip swipe cards.

The older cashiers keep telling me to hang on to that old card, saying they're more reliable, less issues with the, etc.

My chipped card from another bank required a PIN at all instances. I refuse to go with what is called the "Tap & Go" cards. On my husband's card, we had that option removed.

I understand a person can contact Visa and add a pin to their card. Which I have not done yet. Two weeks ago I picked up a basket of food and other items at my local Wal Mart, total just over $250usd. Inserted my chipped Visa card, it processed the charge, approved it and the cashier handed me my receipt. No pin required, no signature required and no ID required. Not a very good way to prevent fraud, IMHO

You also have to remember Walmart is supporting and hiring local people. So, by going to your local Walmart, you are also supporting jobs in your community.

I'm not what you would call a Walmart lover but they do keep the local merchants "honest". In the community where our daughter lives the WM closed for a time to convert the store to a super store, during that period the other merchants in town jacked up their prices to take advantage and hose the local community. That created a lot of loyalty for Walmart in that community.

you have to remember Walmart is the one that put the small towns and the independent merchants out of business and eliminated the small town almost entirely.
