Visiting Vancouver and Victoria Areas

When traveling with a motor home and toad, is it better to stay on the mainland and use the toad for site seeing or take the motor home to the island by ferry? Is there good camping on the island?
  • Vancouver Island is a wonderful place. There are many activities to do and lots of great camping.

Take a peek at these two sites to help you plan.

    Hello B.C.

It depends on how long you have to explore as to if you bring the whole unit or just the toad.

As mentioned the ferries from Washington are much cheaper than B.C. Ferries.

Have fun and enjoy your trip.
  • We took the ferry out of Port Angeles as a passenger only. Stayed in Victoria for the day and caught the last ferry back. Had a great time.

I live on the island and this is by far the best way to go. Just about half of the other two.

  • If you can possibly imagine having five or six days on the best island of the west coast, and would love to see some of British Columbia's best wilderness camping enjoyed by people from all over the world, pm me for some more. There is so much to enjoy on Vancouver Island, but it is huge and takes days to see only the best parts.
  • When you say "mainland", do you mean the U.S.A. or Canada?

I ask because there's a ferry out of Port Angeles, Washington State, U.S.A. that goes right to the heart of Victoria.

There are some pretty nice places to park an RV on this side of the border if you're interested in just walking on to tour the City.
  • Would depend on how long you were planning on being on the island and if hoteling is what you enjoy. We have a lot of great RV parks. They can be very busy in prime time. The hello B.C site will have most of what you are looking for including all the Ferries web sites with schedules and fares. If you have any questions post and will try to help....Mike

    Hello B.C
  • Lots of good camping on the island but both vehicles on the ferry will take a bite out of your wallet, you pay by the foot.If you want to spend much time there suck it up and pay da man. If time is limited a day trip with the toad might be more economical.
