- hedgeExplorer^ hmm, I've camped in both whistlers and Wapati numerous times and never had that problem. I think they use different suppliers so may be a one-off.
I'm heading to Wapati next weekend, can't wait. - VeebyesExplorer IIThe so-called daily fire permit is an irritation but it includes all the wood you could possible want. You have to pick through a woodpile to get it. No, it is not nicely bundled for you.
The real problem is the fire rings. Itty bitty firerings. The wood is cut too long to fit in them. You have to wonder sometimes when one hand does not know what the other is doing. What does it take to have the machine cut the wood shorter? - pappcamExplorerJust got back from my vacation that took me to Whistlers and Mount Kidd. Both were awesome. We went full service at both since we have TT that is nice to use when fully serviced.
We actually a better and more private site at Mount Kidd which was surprising considering how "RV Parks" are talked about around here.
I'd easily return to both in the future. - gkenworthExplorerWe're heading to Whistler, Today!!! Our young (7,5,3) family love it there. There's a daily junior explorers program for the kids, in the late afternoon. They can earn souiviners by getting rangers initials at various sites, (maligne canyon, Athabasca falls, etc). Last summer they Lent out gps's for a kid friendly, whistler based geocache, with about 10 finds. All in all it's the best campgroung in Jasper for our young family.
I've never been to mount kidd. Not really into the resort style.
Enjoy. - FLY_4_FUNExplorerBoth personal favorites of ours. We will be in a full serviced site at Whistlers this coming week. Lots of hiking trails, bike trails, and so many day trips to the tram, Athabasca falls, etc. If you like longer hikes do the valley of five lakes or a shorter hike to horseshoe lake. Plenty of wildlife all over the place....nice shopping and restaurants in town. Spend some time at the info center to get advice on the many things to do. There is also evening educational shows at the campground amphitheatre that are good to attend. Head up to pyramid lake and rent a canoe or paddle boat then have a picnic on the island. Riding stables in that area also. Mount Kidd is a very scenic place although pricey its got lots of paved trails for hiking/biking. Lots of green spaces for games for the kids.
- pappcamExplorerThanks for the replies. We have a 6 year old daughter so it's good to hear there are activities for her. I'm looking forward to both places as I love being in the mountains.
- Johndeere4955ExplorerWhistlers is a nice campground. You are in the trees when you camp at Whistlers and only a short drive into town. Close to the highway but not noisey at all. Washrooms are clean with easy access. A really nice campground you will enjoy it.
Mount Kidd is a nice campground too. A bit more busy than what you will find at Whistlers. The sites are more private then Whistlers as well. I like Mount Kidd as well because it is a great place for families. They have a playground, tennis courts and a good size field to throw the football around. The ampritheater at night puts on a really good show that is informative and fun.
Enjoy your stay at both places, you picked well! - hedgeExplorerWe've never been in the serviced sites at Whistler so can't comment on those. I do know the serviced sites at Wapati are just a parking lot.
Whistlers has nice showers and the show they put on at the ampitheatre was actualy pretty good. I think the firewood permit is awesome, we like to have a fire going so $8 is pretty reasonable imo. Of course there's lots to do since you're so close to Jasper.
Do you just want info on the campground or would you like suggestions on other activities in the area? I know both areas quite well if you want some ideas. - Trump5Explorer

Just seeing if anyone has been to either of these places. I've got 5 days booked in each place in mid-August and I'm just looking for opinions. They've both got good reviews from what I've seen but another opinion never hurts
I haven't been to the Jasper campground but go to Mt Kidd at least one long weekend every year. It is a beautiful campground with a lot of very nice sites depending on what loop your in. There are a few trails right around the campground and tons of hiking in the area. The store is well supplied and they have a kids pool if you have youngsters. They keep the place fairly clean but it's a busy campground as it is fairly full all summer. In my opinion, it is a little pricey, but I think it's worth and we'll keep going back. We were there for July 1 and will be back for Sept long weekend. - ReneeGExplorerWe've only been to Whistler's in Jasper and stayed in the back at the dry spots. Here's a blog of our trip campsites and it includes a picture of our site at Whistler's. They had full hookup sites up front, but they were booked when we got there and we were asked if we wanted to get on a waiting list. We did, but after seeing the sites compared to what we had, we declined. The full hook up sites were close together, cramped actually. Picture of Whistler site.
