WV Turnpike--- where to get gas? Advice for newbies?

Hi, we are finishing up a month long camping trip--- we have a 35' travel trailer. We will be heading N on the WV turnpike from Winston-Salem, NC.

We plan to leave with a full tank but in case we need to refuel.....any suggestions of where to get off?

We've never taken the camper through the mountains before. Any specific suggestions or advice would be great as well.

Thanks!
Judy
  • As everyone has said get fuel in Wytheville on I 81/77 cheaper than in WV,then in Ohio it is also reasonable

Use the right lanes at toll plazas, they're wider.

Yes! Learned that one at the first booth. Tight, but i made it. Made sure i stayed right for the next 2!
  • I forgot where I got off, but it was a small town and a small gas station. I had no problem getting in and getting gas. it is a great drive!
  • Great advice! Thanks for taking the time to help us out.

    Here's hoping tomorrow goes smoothly!!!
  • Fill up near Wytheville, Va. at one of the truck stops. Fuel will be far less expensive. A full tank there may get you through W.Va. entirely if you're driving through. Fuel will be cheap in Ky., Ohio or Pa. not so.
  • Consider filling in Whytheville, Va at your choice of stations - - the per gal price will be 20-30 cheaper than anywhere in WV.

A fun stop on the Turnpike is Tamarack - - fantastic arts and crafts.

From Whytheville, you should have enough fuel to escape WV's overly high fuel prices.

Pay attention to the speed limits and curve warning notices on the Turnpike - - it gets interesting in places, but not crazy if you are paying attention.

    Enjoy
  • beckly WV nice area ,and you can overnight at the kracker barrel, fuel at four diff stations.
