Yarnouth - Portland Ferry is GO

Today the newly elected Nova Scotia government signed a deal with STM to start up a ferry service between Yarmouth and Portland, Maine next May.

The ferry called "The Nova Star will leave Portland each evening at 8 p.m. EST and arrive in Yarmouth at 7 a.m. AST the next day. It will leave Yarmouth at about 9 a.m. and arrive back in Portland at 5 p.m. EST. "

  • Any idea of price?
Although I will probably give New Brunswick some money. I bet New Brunswick is not happy about that?
  • This new ferry contract is for a more standard speed ship. Look at the timing in my quote. The trip takes about 9 hours - make sure to give allowance for Portland being in Eastern Time and Yarmouth in Atlantic Time.

& we'll see if this pic location works.

  • I road the CAT about 10 years ago from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth. What a great trip. Very fast boat, crusing around icebergs. I heard that after the contract with Canada expired, the CAT was shipped to China and is doing ferry duty over there. I would love to ride it again, but I don't think I'll go to China for that trip!
  • We got to ride the Cat from Yarmouth to Bar Harbor before the service was discontinued. Boy was that a blast. Over 50mph with roster tails a reportedly quarter mile long.
  • What ever happened to the high speed ferry from a few years ago?
