- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerDown here it is impossible to micro-plan. Stop driving as close to sundown as possible. I never EVER drive at night in Mexico. Oops they forgot to mark an open trench.
On the autopista between the coast and Morelia the army decided to erect a check point -after sunset-. Pitch Black. Multiple Humvees and a 6x6.
I damned near hit one soldier standing in the lane waving a flashlight.
I patiently explained to the sergeant that the custom he never heard of was to stuff rags in a 5 gallon bucket and light them. That was the very last excursion after sunset for me. The end.
If I am nowhere near an RV park, I'll park behind a gasolinera. Between Tepic and Tecoman there are no RV Parks. A person has to use their noggin. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIKOA has 3 levels of RV parks. From the KOA website....
Within our family, you’ll find KOA Journeys, KOA Holidays and KOA Resorts across North America. Each offers added amenities and services to make your stay more complete and better meet your expectations. Whether you’re on a road trip or seeking a vacation destination, there’s always a KOA to meet your camping needs.
Each also comes with stair stepped pricing. This has been the case for many years.
As an aside, can someone please tell me why the heck this is still in the Tech issues forum? - Cummins12V98Explorer IIII have never hear of rates that high at a KOA. I appreciate he let some of us know that are uninformed.

It's called info! Use it or not!!!
But hey we have Info from you that $100 a night is fine for you.
I don't side with Tom/Barb too often but I sure as HE!! don't criticize and personally attack them.
Where things go astray is the OP is warning us of a problem that does not exist.
There is no limit on CG rates. There are many CG's that charge $100.00 or more. The CG price is readily available to everyone it's not a secret.
Is tHe OP is warning us to check prices before we check in and pay?
Or is he warning us the yellow light is going to turn red!
Either way I think we already know fire is hot, no warning required!
A better title of this thread may have been:

High prices are good for the industry. They attract and keep good operators in the business. Those "high" prices allow those operators to maintain and improve their parks. If every park was forced to have "bottom feeder" pricing, soon every park would either become a dump or just close up and converted to other usage. It costs real money to keep a nice park nice and even more to change a park from bad to good. Rental rates are their major source of revenue to use for those projects. It isn't just about greed.Bill.Satellite wrote:
Justify it in your own mind anyway you like. I understand you have buyers remorse but it's no ones fault but your own. Any business is allowed to charge anything they like. You don't like the price and you have the right to vote with your feet.....Just drive away. Even posting here saying you were surprised and warning others that this KOA is very expensive is good information for others. Just don't blame the KOA. They did nothing wrong.
You think I'm going Back? get real! I am warning others to stay away too.
Ever been really tired, and not wanting to argue with some one who has nothing to do with pricing?
Yes, I could have driven away, but being tired and having dinner engagement In town didn't.
I guess you can blame me for bitchin about high prices, because you believe they are good for the industry.
And as a warning, this is about the worst attempt I have ever seen. First almost no one will see this "warning". Your subject line has no indication this is about a negative experience regarding rates in Leavenworth, Washington. Heck it could be a head's up about a great rate in the Florida Keys.
Second, there are almost no travelers who fit your situation, that is they arrive and pay only to be shocked by what they paid. Most check rates somehow before arriving at a park, be it by phone, website, internet etc. Those that don't almost always ask the rate at check in before paying. It is almost impossible to pay without knowing (as you claim happened to you) the amount in advance. The desk clerk almost always tells you how much it is prior to asking for payment. If you are paying by Credit Card you have to accept the amount on the keypad. And if you are paying with cash you have to know how much to give them. Unless you just walk up to the reservation counter, hand them a stack of hundreds and tell them to take whatever they want, the scenario you claim happened only happens if you incredibly careless and out of tune with what is going on around you.
Finally, this is about the worst RV resource to use if you goal is to communicate with large amounts of travelers going to a specific place. This thread will be dead and gone in a matter of days. It's actually on life support right now, three days in. Next week, next month and in the years following, no one traveling to Leavenworth, Washington is going to see this thread.
If you want to reach a large number of travelers, post your problems on RVparkreviews, Google, Trip Advisor, KOA's website or any of the other travel oriented sites out there. The only problem you will encounter is your message will be considered frivolous since the rate will have been prominently displayed, for all to see, on all those sites long before your post appeared. Be heck, Don Quixote never figured out that windmills weren't really dragons that needed to be killed, so tilt away. - Cummins12V98Explorer III" I fail to see why it is your job to warn people to stay away from this camp ground because it was out of your price range."

You can twist this anyway you like and try putting words in my mouth but twisting things does not change reality. First, I never said anything about you going back. I never expected you would.
If you had made a simple phone call or checked the internet before arriving you would have been able to vote with your feet. We have already beat it to death that not doing this meant you were stuck paying whatever they charged. There's no need to ***** about the high price. Did you look around while you were there? Were there others there? If so, there is a reason they charge what they charge and their customers are happy to pay what they charge for the services they offer. - JoeHExplorer IIIWe travel all around the US and find many areas where a night is in the $100 range... some places like the Keys is $200. It's all what you want, where you want to be and what you want to do. Do a little prep work and you won't be surprised.

:) Hi, I fail to see why it is your job to warn people to stay away from this camp ground because it was out of your price range. Pricey yes, but we enjoyed our time spent there. This is a great place with a lot going on and very conveniently located. That in it's self justifies the price. - Tom_BarbExplorer
