$199 Monthly Special

Winter Texan numbers have been down this year in the Rio Grande Valley. A number of RV Parks are running a special, $199 for a month if you are a first time customer. The park I am at is part of Encore and is running this special. Gas here is $1.43 a gal. Diesel is $1.75. With the price of fuel and lot rents so cheap even the Canadian Loonie is going a long way here.

If you have been on the fence about leaving home now is the time to come.

A few years back they were passing out $199 coupons at the RV snowbird booths for the Valley. Guy gave me several coupons and told me to just stay one month each at several different Encore parks. That's what he did for a cheap winter stay.

Never could cash them in since none of the parks were accepting them because they were "full." Guess everyone had the same idea as he did.

Seems if rentals are down so much where is the loyalty to repeat customers :H
Which is why I have always considered such marketing schemes are misguided. My guess is they are upsetting more current $800 customers than they will ever create future $800.00 customers. I think the vast majority of the $200.00 customers will think that at $200.00 it is a great deal, at 4 times as much money, look elsewhere for the next great deal. I think the plan is fine if their goal is to run off the loyal customer while seeking the bargain hunter.
  • It's been a couple years (maybe three) since we stayed in that area. We were surprised to see things like shuffle board and bingo nights in the parks. We would ask about biking and hiking groups and generally got a dear in the headlight look. I wonder if the vacancy rate in that area is related to a possible social shift in what retirement is. A couple had no tennis courts. Don't know if that's a local thing or not. Nice friendly folks though. Helpful too. Enjoyed our stays anyways. Will be back thru next fall but only in passing on the way to SoCal. San Antonio was fun too.

I assume you're at Victoria Palms, and yes it is a "raving bargain" given $199 for the first month.

Only thing is I can not see anywhere where $199/first month is being advertised. Is this available to everyone? or just at the Snowbird booths that where held last fall during the bigger RV shows?
  • At this point I think you could negotiate a lower rate for a longer stay at most south Texas Parks. Just ask. Nearly 500 parks and most have vacancies.
  • Daily Double,

I have RVd for over 30 years. I have RVd in 49 US states, 6 Mexican States, 9 Canadian provinces and 1 territory. The Encore RV park I am at now is one of the nicest RV parks I have ever been in. At a cost of $6.65 a day for first time renters it is a raving bargain.
  • The park we stay in doesn't need to run specials. It is 97% full.
  • Agree with Old Biscuit. One we sometimes go to in AZ has $189/mo for new customers (regular monthly rate is close to $800). You are considered a New Customer if you have not been to the park in 2 years. For that reason we make sure we don't go if we have been the previous year.
  • First time customers get the special.
