We are at the KOA Very nice place

We just got back from Lake George and it doesn't matter what time of year you go, there's plenty to do and the mountains look great year round.

We were there several years ago first week of October, tree colors were breathtaking. We stayed at the KOA, no complaints..

We prefer North Pole Resort - 100 Acre Woods side. If you need it, they have 50A and pull-through sites. Never stayed at the KOA.
Peak color is the end of September - beginning of October. Columbus Day is usually just past the peak. Columbus Day weekend at North Pole marks the end of camping for us.
North Pole and KOA are your best bets for a full-hookup site. Read and understand North Pole's refund policy though. There are some State (DEC) campground open at that time but it's dry camping.

Just got back from Lake Placid the other day. Stayed at the KOA, it was great, one of the nicest campgrounds I have been to. It is not like most KOA (open farm field), it is well forested, even the big 50A sites have some tree cover. Lots to do in the KOA and you can even see Whiteface mtn from the main building/pool area.

We stayed at North Pole and when we go back we will stay on the wood side with the hiking trails.
