Alabama C.O.E. Parks

We will be heading back to Missouri From Destin Florida Around May 10Th. Any thoughts on a couple of Corp Parks for 2 or 3 nights each. We will be stopping in the Huntsville area to Visit our Granddaughter so our route will be Getting to I-65 and then I-65 to Huntsville. Thanks for any help.

  • Gunter Hill is very nice with some full hook up sites. We are heading there in a couple of weeks.
  • Although there are no COE parks in the Huntsville area, there are some other public campground opportunities:

The closest is Monte Sano State Park, about 5 miles east of town.

11 miles south of Huntsville is Ditto Landing Marina & CG - a county park.

Honeycomb TVA Park is about 25 miles southeast of the city, and Mallard Creek TVA Park is about 35 miles west.

We've stayed at Mallard Creek and have included it in our campground reviews.

We have found The Ultimate US Public Campground Project to be an excellent resource for locating public campgrounds of all types.

  • Point Mallard Campground (public park) looks good. Never been there but full hookups for reasonable price. Read reviews under Decatur AL on www.rvparkreviews.com
  • No CoE parks around Huntsville, or on the Tennessee River. But Monte Sano State Park is good. They have some sewer sites, but you can't reserve them. You reserve a site and if a sewer site is available when you get there you can have it, if not then you just get W&E.
There is a CoE near Montgomery AL (Gunter Hill), Lot's around the Nashville area and toward Paducah KY. They are on Percy Priest Lake and along the Cumberland River.
