Op here...
The red\green light for the left turn was visible for the camera at ALL times, but not for me..I saw green, then red AFTER I began my turn.
At no time did I even see an amber light.
Some people, when viewing, seem to have confused the lights for the traffic going straight on, which was a totally separate light section.
fyi The traffic coming the opposite way still had a red light as I went through the intersection.
I am sure if a police officer was at the scene it would have been no problem.
Re paying the fine
I tried to pay it on line but without a zip code...not possible.
Had to call and pay over the phone. Note: between waiting on hold and going through 4 different people, they finally took my Canadian credit card and postal code. (4 people because no one seemed to know how to process a payment from Canada).
fyi This took me well over 30 minutes.
My original post was made a bit out of frustration because I felt I was in the right and still do and I put a little personal info in order to explain the situation. I also felt that other rvers should be aware of what happened.
The personal comments made to me about our financial situation\living arrangements were totally uncalled for! Unfortunately, I have found on this particular forum this does happen to many ops. Sad....
I agree with some of the posters that the red light cameras are just for money making. We have the same cameras in Ontario, but as another poster said, we have an amber between red and green, which does give you ample time to turn.
Without going back, seeing and timing the Alabama one I cannot say what the timing was or even if there was an amber light. I saw green and then well into my slow, careful turn, I saw the red.
End of story!
