America the Beautiful Senior Lifetime Pass

For you Old Geezers (like me) that have had a Senior Lifetime Pass for a number of years, your existing pass is now available digitally on your phone. First you have to set up an account (if you don't already have one) at "recreation.gov" where you can then link your existing senior pass to your account. You're going to need the number on your physical card to do this, so if you lost your card and don't know the number you're SOL. Then you download the "recreation.gov app" to you phone and log in. Once you log in the pass will be available in the app for your use in entrance into NPS, Forest Service, BLM, USCOE, etc. facilities (anywhere your physical card is accepted). Note: acceptable ID and your physical presence is still required when you use the pass.

You can also download a pdf copy of your pass (which is also accepted for entrance) and/or download the card to your "wallet app".

  • StirCrazy just a friendly discussion. We all have to pay $$ or $$$$ for some things and we all (or most) look for ways to pay less with the things we spend $ on. Win some lose some.
I get a cheaper campsite but I pay more for other stuff when I visit your country. You pay more for a NP pass but get cheaper stuff. Sounds like a wash to me.
I know you’re not complaining, but complaining about things that are A.  Not horrible. And B.  Out of one’s control is of no benefit.
Side note, looks like BC right now gas is the same or cheaper than here!!

  • This pass has saved us so much money. Especially camping on Federal sites

That’s the point. Why us…elders? …veterans who separated more than 40 years ago?

  • On a broader scope, is the Senior Pass fair? I go in and out of National Parks with a wave of my forever $20 Senior Pass while the guy behind me with the wife, three kids and a tight budget pays $35 at Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Devil’s Postpile etc. Why am I entitled to what is essentially “free” admission? Heck, now with the Veteran Pass there is no fee. What do you think?

as it should be.  everyplace should have a Veteran rate that is better than the normal senior rate.

I disagree. Veterans benefits should be to “catch up” the vet to where he/she would have been if they had not served…education, employment etc. “Lifelong” perks, particularly in an all volunteer armed forces, isn’t appropriate.

If you feel guilty, just hand in your pass and pay daily rate.

Any time your using your geezer pass and that feeling of being “Entitled” gets the best of you , just pay the fee for that guy behind you on tight budget and you’ll be all good again.
