- dverstraExplorerOK back on topic.
As travelnutz said there are a lot of "decent" campgrounds in the UP. I've listed a few in previous topics but here goes. These are my favorites.
East End
Aune Osborn at Sault Ste Marie
Middle on Lake Superior
Munising Park
Middle South on Lake Michigan
Fayette State Park on the Garden Peninsula
Middle North
Michigamme Shores RV Park on Lake Michigamme west of Marquette
Western North
Houghton City Park on the Portage Canal - JoeHExplorer IIIOh well... painted, pictured whatever !
- travelnutzExplorer IIActually I don't really think the name "Pictured Rocks" should be the true name as a description either as it's much more than just rocks. It's mostly all sheer beautiful varying colors high cliffs dropping down to the pure blue/green sometimes irridescent Lake Superior waters with so many features and shapes along it's many miles long span in brilliant contrasting colors and hues. The water is so clear you can see even more in the depths. Miner's Castle is very unique as are the tunnels thru the limestone walls. Very hard to describe in words all the various different formations you see including the waterfalls down the sides especially from a boat. The tour boats go 18 miles before they turn around.

- M_GO_BLUE1ExplorerBay Mills RV Park in Brimley, MI is very nice...
Kewadin Casino in St. Ignace, MI has water and electruc hookups (with dump station on oway out) for $10.00/night if you don't care about anything fancy... - dverstraExplorerI'm sitting with my morning cup of coffee in Sault Ste Marie watching the boat traffic in and out of the Locks. Aune Osborn Campground. Electric and water only. Nice Place to sit for a long weekend.
- travelnutzExplorer III have this list as a real spaced listing on one of my other puters at home but we are RVing presently just south of the Big Mac Bridge in the northern L.P. and only have one of my laptops so I had to copy and paste from "My Posts" area of the forum and what you see is how it had saved the original post.

Below is a repost of a list I had posted several times already of only the CG's in the U.P. of Michigan that are on the shoreline of one of the Great Lakes. Nearly all have a min of 30 amp electric and some have full hookups. There's roughly 5 times the number of CG's (state park CG's, privately owned parks, city/county/organization owned, etc) on the the following list that are inland and away from the shoreline and most of those also have a min of electric thru full hookups. The full list would be far to huge to post on this forum! Good Sam's RV campground book has hundreds listed as does Woodalls and others.
You'll have no problem finding a CG in September in the U.P. More like which ones are where we will be near! You didn't give the areas of the U.P. you are going to and the U.P. is big so it's hard to guess at a list as there's so many total CG's up there. "Decent" is very subjective as opinions vary so much. Yes, they all are decent in our opinion and we go to the U.P. severl times each year but a 40' real high end tall diesel pusher may not fit in some sites or a 40' 5th wheel either so those RV'ers might not think they were decent. Our crew cab long box pickup with our 29' Carrilite 5th wheel would fit just fine in nearly all of the CG's sites I listed.
Here's the total repost again:
OK, I had posted this before and here it is again. These are only the CG's directly on 3 of the Great Lakes shoreline and only in the U.P. of Michigan. On Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, and Lake Huron. There are at least 5 times this many inland and/or on inland lakes as Michigan has over 11,000 inland lakes within the state and over 3,200 miles of Great Lakes Shoreline alone. The OP didn't come back on and give his preferences so he'll have to decide which of these may be to his liking. What one person feels is a good or great CG another may feel very differently. To name a few in each area on the Lake Superior shoreline: Starting at Sault Ste Marie (The Soo) Is Anne Osborn CG. A half mile west is The Soo Locks CG. About 20 mile farther west is Brimley State Park. Maybe 5 miles west of Brimley is Bay Mills CG. Up M-123 six miles south of Paradise, MI is The Tahquamenon Falls State Park Rivermouth CG. North of Newberry, MI is Muskallonge State Park. West of Muskallonge is Woodland Park CG at Grand Marais, MI Going west on H-58 is a pretty rustic type CG on Lake Superior At Munising, MI is Munising City Tourist CG North on M-28 around the corner is the City Lakeshore CG park. Half mile west on M-28 is Wandering Wheels Campground. Next is Bay Furnace (think it's still rustic). East of US-41 on M-28 is Gitche Gumee Campground. Baraga State Park at Baraga. Fort Wilkins State Park at Copper Harbor, MI. McLain State Park near Houghton, MI. 2 CG's at Ontonagon, MI (can't remember their names but have camped at them). The 2 Union Bay CG's at The Porcupine Mtns State Park. Presque Isle CG at The Porcupine Mtns State Park. Little Girls Point CG, County Rd 505, north of Ironwood, MI Partial list of those on the Lake Superior side shore. Many more on the Lake Michigan side of the U.P and then there's Several CG's on the Lake Huron side of the Eastern U.P. Near Hessel/Cedarville (The Les Cheneaux Islands area) more commonly known as the "Snows". On the way to Detour Village is a CG on Lake Huron. Also, a nice CG on Drummond Island and a couple near the town of Drummond. The ferry runs all year from Detour and takes MH's and vehicles with big trailers to the island. We've done it several times now. I gave a partial list on this thread of the CG's on the U.P. Lake Superior Shoreline and now the list of many of the CG's on the U.P. Lake Michigan side shoreline starting at the Wisconsin/Michigan border and going east. The next post will be the CG's on the L.P. West Michigan shoreline on Lake Michigan waters. As usual, there are many many more CG's just within 5 miles of the Great Lakes shoreline within the state of Michigan. These are on the south side of the U.P. on the Lake Michigan Shoreline. Green Bay is part of Lake Michigan. Kleinke CG on M-35 (Lakeshore Dr) north of Menominee, MI. J W Wells State Park on M-35 between Menominee and Escanaba. O B Fuller County park on M-35. Gladstone Bay CG in Gladstone, MI. Vagabond Resort & CG near Gladstone. Nahma south of US-2 near Nahma. Fayfette SP - Garden Peninsula - M-183 - very neat place to explore. CG at Thompson, MI - Co Rd 435 - near Manistique, MI. Gould City Township Park - south of US-2. CG near Epoufette - south of US-2 - samll but quaint. Lakeshore Park CG - west of Saint Ignace, MI. Has a big CG on the other side on US-2. Straits State Park - upper and lower on right side along the Big Mac Bridge in Saint Ignace, MI. Lake Michigan and Lake Huron basically join eachother under the bridge. Going east at Saint Ignace it's Lake Huron and the following:: Castle Rock Mackinac Trail CG - north side of Saint Ignace. Brulee Point CG - South of M-134 close to Hessel, MI. Cedarville RV CG in Cedarville, MI. Loons Point CG - just east of Cedarville. Barefoots Resort & CG - on Hill Island - small but has a nice beach, boat docks, and a launching ramp for the customers use. Even more fun if you have a boat or rent on there. Great Fishing too! Detour State Park - M134 Detour, MI. Karen's Cabins & CG at Raber, MI - north of Detour in a very quiet area.
