If you are into history, the Saratoga Battlefield at Schuylerville and the Ticonderoga Fort. Lake George is set up for tourists. The museum at Blue Mountain Lake is worth the trip and then up to Lake Placid. Lots of state campgrounds in the area but most are no hookups and sometimes size limited. The Robert Moses park on the St Lawrence is nice and amazing to watch the size of the ships going through the canal locks.
But as said before, Watch the black flies, bring or buy something high in Deet.
