Anybody camping on Easter?

We are discussing making our maiden voyage with the TT on the long Easter weekend. Smoked ham on the fire and an Easter egg hunt in a campgound sounds like a lot of fun! Only challenge for us will be the weather being that we are in mid-Michigan. I'm not sure how far we are wanting to travel but it sounds like a good idea so far. Anyone else planning on heading out for the holiday?

My family and I camp every Easter in Michigan or Ohio. There are not many campgrounds open this time of year, particularly when Easter is early like this year, but there are a few that are open year round. When Easter is early like it is this year I tend to travel further South into Ohio where the weather tends to be better.

We are considering heading south a ways depending on the weather, do you have any recommendations for camping in OH?

Mid Michigan check out Rifle River Recreation Area. They're open year round with electric hookups and heated bathroom and showers.

Also Higgins Lake. The power is on but the bathrooms are limited to pit toilets.

There's plenty of State and Federal campgrounds open.

I drove by my nearby boondock spots today, dreaming of camping. Right now 3+ feet of snow under the trees and a thick snow berm at the side of the road blocking access.

April is a ways off, I'll keep a positive outlook, count me in!
  • I like the idea in principle. Weather might be an issue and finding an open campground or boondocking site.

  • We will be going to our local campground (30 miles from home) for our first voyage of the year. Since Easter is early, we may get snow, but it probably won't be too cold, or at least not for long. Our kids will be out of school for the week before Easter.
