Asheville, NC

We're heading to Asheville in July and wanted to know what other things to do outside of Asheville? We're going to do Biltmore and some other things in Asheville but wanted to know if there was some other neat little towns and sights to see outside of Asheville also. Thanks!
  • The NC Arboretum is on the outskirts and well worth a visit. Admission is free but there is a parking fee. Cataloochee is twenty five miles or so west if you have any interest in seeing Elk in the wild. Also a good chance of turkey. Great Smokey Mountain Railroad in Bryson City - take the trip that goes to Nantahala Outdoor Center and maybe a rafting adventure? Lots of scenic drives with waterfalls in that area.
  • Some more: The Carl Sandburg home/farm at Flat Rock; Great Smokey Mountain RR at Dillsboro; Waynesville downtown; tour waterfall country south of Asheville; Linville caverns/falls/gorge north of Asheville; Pisgah Forest, if you want to hike; Downtown Old Asheville for shops, street bands, restaurants, etc. The Biltmore Mall has been converted to an outlet mall. Blowing Rock and Grandfather Mountain- north of Asheville - longer drive though.
  • Wow great timing! Literally just popped over to the forum after watching this 5 min RV Video Series It gives some great ideas of Asheville things to do.

Looks like fun with Navitat, a local trail system, and Mt Mitchell. Worth the watch I am a subscriber.
  • Well Cherokee is not too far away. And there is Chiminey Rock, Lake Lure, and Hendersonville. Plus Saluda. And of course the Blue Ridge Parkway is not far away.
