Problem is not much in the hih rent district along the ocean that is free. Lots of free areas in natl forest that are free but large RV makes it a problem. Also thousands of areas. in desert that are free. Same problem with large RV. I tent camped & had TC in southern for years. Of coarse more & more places are blocked off or taken over by natlpark service like Joshua Tree etc. Still lots of desert BLM that is free in the desert. Just not so much along the coast. One of our favorites was Alamo Mountain off the Hungary Valley road near the top of the grape vine. (Padres natl forest) At the 7000 ft level I could stay a week & never see another camper. These places take a PU & tent or just a TC. JMHO
