Traveling from Charlotte, NC area on I-85 south on May 26 (Memorial day) to pick up I-20 west. Would appreciate any recommendations on campgrounds just north of Atlanta off I-85.

Thanks any info.

Do it tonight. Many parks are already booked regardless of which state as Memorial Day weekend is the busiest time for camping. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerNot many campgrounds on I-85 north of Atlanta except state parks and Corps of Engineers parks which will be booked for the holiday weekend. There is a Jellystone campground west of Atlanta on I-20 but they require 3 night stay on holiday weekend. You might try the Flying J, exit 147 off I-85 at Commerce GA.
There is also a Flying J west of Atlanta I-20 exit 19. Have a safe trip! - padredwNomadWe used to stay at what was then a KOA at Commerce, GA, but that one had become very run down the last time we came through there.
For several years we have stayed in a little campground at Lavnoia, GA, just a mile or so off I-85. It would not be everyone's cup of tea, but it suited us just fine.
You might not like it as well as we do, but at least I thought I'd tell you about it. It is simple, quiet, rural with full hookups.
The name is Sunset Campground. Here is a listing:
Sunset Campground - jgoldenExplorerI had thought that folks would be leaving Monday evening. Sounds like that is wrong. Thanks

- ct1964upsExplorerI would think that you are right, most weekend campers will be going home Monday night...traffic will be heavy but..campgrounds...empty..
From Charlotte , you should be pass Atlanta for a campground...and going out 0n I-20 from Atlanta , there are quite a few c/g's to stay in....Chuck - HorsedocExplorer IILake Hartwell State Park SC. Exit 1 (last in SC) and turn west. About a mile or a bit less on the left. Would work fine for an overnite. Pretty place. Right on the Tugaloo river and lake hartwell.
- jgoldenExplorerThanks to all. Not sure I'll get going early enough to get passed Atlanta but will look for CG's west on I-20
