- Jim_ShoeExplorerWhatever you do, avoid Augusta during the Golf Masters Tournament unless you're going for that reason. You'll need reservations well in advance - and more money than usual. A friend and I went several years ago and found a spot to park the RV in a motel parking lot for the night. And it wasn't cheap, but worth it. The other 50 weeks Augusta is a beautiful but small southern town.

Hamilton-Branch State Park is about 30 minutes away (in South Carolina). Stayed there one January, and there were only two other sites of the 200 being used. All sites are on lake. According to reviews, it can get kind of hectic when the weather is warm (boat ramp in park). Bring plenty of water hoses - spigot on wrong side of site.
We live in the area and really like Hamilton Branch, as well. There are no sewer hook-ups, though - but a dump station. If you're active or retired military or DOD, Pointes West Army Recreation Area on the Georgia side of the lake is very nice, too (and quite affordable if you're eligible). Most of the nice place to camp are around the lake.

Drove through the Ft Gordon Rec (Pointes West) area and really did not care for it all. - Second_ChanceExplorer II

For the COE, we like Petersburg, Ridge Road and Winfield. Winfiled is next door to Mistletoe SP. Mistletoe and Winfield are a little further out than Petersburg and Ridge Road. Columbia County also has a park called Wildwood. It had been a number of years since we had been there, but drove through it last summer. It would suffice. It's on the lake also. Out on Washington Road after you pass Pollards Corner and before you get to the Keg Creek bridge. Ridge Road is pass the Keg Creek Bridge. Petersburg is between Pollards Corner and the dam on Hwy 221. Depending on which way you come from Evans (Washington Road or Furys Ferry Rd - Hwy 28) will depend on which way you go. If you go out Furys ferry Rd, there are a few places out that way (on SC side of lake). You have Modoc (COE) and Hamilton Branch State Park (SC).
There are better options than that Heritage place. You will just have to be willing to drive 20-30 minutes.
X2 Petersburg, our favorite in the aera!

Our site at ge Road a couple years ago.
Our site at Winfield last year .
View from our site at Winfield last year. - wbwoodExplorerHeritage is basically the only thing near town. We are from Augusta and our parents still live there as well as some siblings. We won't stay at Heritage. It's basically a trailer park. When we go back home and take the RV, we stay out at the lake at one of the COE campgrounds. Only a 20 minute ride from Evans (where my in laws live).
- robsouthExplorer IIMistletoe State Park is near and a very beautiful park. One of my favorites.

We have started camping more and more at Good Sam campgrounds and parks. Every one we've been to so far has been great. They remind me a lot of KOA, except they are not located so close to Interstates or 4 lane US roads. A bit more secluded from the road traffic noise. So far, we've enjoyed every one we've been to.
We stayed at Pine Mountain in Georgia. We were very impressed with this campground. Although our GPS put the campground about 3 miles from the actual site. Kind of freeked us out when it said, "you have reached your destination" and there was nothing but trees. We called them and they got us there, no problem.
We're going to another Good Sam tonight (Anderson, Indiana), it's only about 12 miles from our house, and this will be our first time there. And I've lived in this area all my life and never realized it was there until I went to the Good Sam web site and searched the campgrounds in Indiana. So we've stayed at Good Sam in Georgia, Alabama, and Indiana so far. All were great! - midnightsadieExplorer IIonly thing I remember about augesta GA is boot camp.
