Campground in Poconos with lake

We have just bought an inflatable kayak and can't wait to get it wet. Do you have any suggestions for a campground in the Poconos which has campsites not too far from a lake? I have checked a lot of the state parks and they are pretty full (we are going on the 19th of this month for the weekend), although I have a site here and there I can grab. I was wondering about private campgrounds you might recommend.

Electric would be nice but we can manage without it. Pet friendly and the ability to carry the kayak from a campsite to the lake shore are really the only two absolute requirements. Thanks for your help!

    x2 Great Campground !!!
  • Re: Otter Lake, looks like a nice place for a seasonal site or even a full week. But they require at least 5 nights for a non-lakefront site reserved in advance (7 nights for lakefront). They say to call "a few days prior to planned arrival date" if I want less than that--i.e. a weekend. If I do that, there's no chance I will find anything else at that late date if they have no space. Not a very friendly policy for weekend campers.
  • Promised Land has 4 campgrounds. Some are right on the lake, other are not. Some have electric, one Pickeral Point has a number of full hookup sites. It is on the lake has brand new bath houses and a beach. Also Frances Slocum State park has a lake and electric hookups.A little south of the Poconos is Locust Lake State Park which also has electric hookups and a nice lake. Some of the sites are within 30 ft of the shore line.
  • Otter Lake CG can definitely afford it's "unfriendly policy towards weekend campers" because it almost NEVER has an empty campsite during the spring/summer months! It is a great CG nonetheless.
  • Thanks all. We found a spot at Tobyhanna SP. A nice lake and a swimming beach too. We were there last month and I was hoping for someplace new but I am sure we'll enjoy it again.
  • Otter Lake spring or fall for just a weekend. Hopin to do a longer trip next year.
