campground near Atlantic City?

I am looking for suggestions for a nice campground near Atlantic City. We would like 30 amp service, full hook ups for a 34' travel trailer.

Access to public transportation would be nice. If we need to drive our tow vehicle into the city, any suggestions for things to avoid or good places to park near the main attractions would be appreciated.

  • I know of no waterfront campgrounds in Southern New Jersey - unless you consider being on a small lake waterfront. There are no campgrounds within walking distance of a saltwater beach that I know of - all the campgrounds are on the mainland, 3 - 5 miles from the barrier islands. There may be one or two near Cape May that are within a bike ride of a beach. Check the link I previously posted.

That being said, there are tons of campgrounds offering a full palate of features and activities. Most have wooded sites, and many have private lakes as well as pools, etc.

If you are looking for campgrounds on the beach like Assateague Island, the Outer Banks, or Myrtle Beach, they just do not exist - real estate is just too dear!
  • Thanks for the tips everyone. I feel comfortable driving into the city, given your information on the relative ease of parking. We can stay a little further away from Atlantic City if we will be driving in. Given that, are there any waterfront campgrounds within 30-40 minutes (or less!) of the city that you can recommend?

    Thanks!
  • There are some great Jersey Shore towns, but AC isn't one of them. If you need to be there - for work, or casinos - ok, but if you are taking the family for vacation - you might want to consider other options - towards Cape May.
  • I have srated at (https://pomonarvpark.com/,) Pamona RV park and campground. The have full hook up and not far from AC. The owners are great and the other campers are very friendly .
  • There are tons of campgrounds in Cape May County - the next county south of Atlantic County where Atlantic City is. Many of them are within an easy half hour drive of the city. Check out this website:

As far as getting into the city is concerned, public transportation is limited, but parking is not too difficult - even in a truck. While you probably will not want to get into any of the casino parking garages (might be too tall) there a numerous open lots, and some street parking with meters. The casinos in the "Marina District" (as opposed to downtown on the boardwalk) have even more lot parking available.
  • I live in S.Jersey and don't know of any close to AC. You might try calling Whitehorse RV.com They are about 20 miles from AC and just of the AC expressway. They would be your best bet for the info you need.
  • contact shady pines c/g & resort in galloway, nj which is about 15 mins from the casinos.
