Campground Near Winston-Salem, NC

Tanglewood CG is about 13 miles from Winston Salem. It is located in Clemmons, NC. Nice CG within a park. Let them know you have a big rig so they can give you the right site.

X2 on Tanglewood. Not sure when they open but I think at end of March

If you go to Tanglewood, be sure to let them know what you have...Many of the sites are pretty unlevel. If you want a place in between WS and CLT (45 minutes either way), then you might try Lake Norman Motorcoach Resort (does not have to be a motorcoach). It's in the Mooresville area. About 8-10 miles from I-77 and has a great steak restaurant across the street from it called Linebergers. There is also a KOA off of I-77.

You can stay at the Dixie Fairgrounds i Winston-Salem...full hook-ups......works well......have stayed at the other two...tanglewood has very few "level" sites..nice place..but poor design....Lake Norman a little out of the way for Winston-Salem....Chuck

Tanglewood, the Fairgrounds or Oak Hollow in High Point are your best choices in the W-S area. Well, really your only choices. Although Oak Hollow is in High Point, it's a very easy, quick drive to the WSSU campus.

And I think you meant UNC Charlotte? UNC usually refers to Chapel Hill.

(BTW -- Congratulations on getting two out of state kids accepted to NC schools! It's not an easy thing to do, considering the UNC system schools are required to take 82 percent of their students from in state. So I know out of state kids who get accepted are very bright kids!)

A little more of a drive less than 1 hour Mayberry Campground is near RT 52 & I77 at Mt Airy NC open year round & very big rig friendly

Actually a good central location since she mentioned visiting kids in both winston salem and Charlotte.

Yes, I meant UNC Charlotte. And thank you for your congratulations. Both of my kids are smart kids and are extremely hard workers. They have both overcome academic adversity to achieve everything that they have thus far. I'm incredibly proud of both of my kids!

Thank you for all of the campground recommendations. When we go see my daughter at UNCC we usually stay in a KOA in Fort Mill, but I didn't want to stay that far way from WSSU for this college visit.

Theres a KOA just off i77 at exit 45 (Troutman area) also, if you like KOA's. Would be centrally located as well.

Or if you want to go over to highway 52 and cut across to 85 and go in that way, here is Crosswinds Family Campground not far off of 85. It will be centrally located. Just know that around the concord area of 85 is a mess with construction.
