- mockybirdExplorerBut you also will not find standing water on your site. I have always been able to get level.
- StclairmExplorerI did find relatively level spots when we drove through a couple of years ago. I marked them on my map in case we ever stayed there. Compared to the spot I was in at Oak Hollow CG, these are flat plains. Oak Hollow does have some gravel and level overnight type spots though. The spots down by the lake were pretty level.
- wbwoodExplorerchrisbailey, we like Tanglewood as you can tell by our post above yours, but I have to disagree with something you said...You said the sites were moderately level. There is not a level site in the park.
- chrisbailey13ExplorerWe just spent a extra long weekend at Tanglewood Park just outside Winston Salem, NC.
The campground was very nice, the rates where great at $31.00 per night. All the sites where paved, and moderately level. My back-in site sloped down toward the back, so I ended up using chocks under the front wheels because the rear levels lifted the rear wheels slightly off the ground (they where still touching the ground, but barely. I noticed some of the sites sloped the opposite direction, so I guess it is just a matter of picking your preference.
The location was quiet, clean, with full hookup and free cable it did get VERY dark at night. There is a off leash dog area about 200 yards from the RV park, a walking trail, and they actually had a farmers market on Saturday. - wbwoodExplorer

- wbwoodExplorerJust returned from our 2nd trip to Tanglewood. If you are in a trailer with a jack that can level you front to rear, then you should be ok, alothugh there are some sites that really slope front to back. You will have to level side to side no matter what. If you are in a motorhome and don't have leveling jacks (like us), then you will need a lot of blocks/wood to level. Not only front/back but also side/side. Both times we went, ours was not perfectly level, but "close enough". We used 3 sets of lynx levelers. We enjoy the park a lot besides that. I will post some pics from this weekend later.
- Florida_55ExplorerI've lived in and around Winston-Salem since 1977. If I needed to use a campground in the Winston-Salem area my first choice would be Tanglewood Park despite the fact many sites are not level. It is located in a safe area. Some of the area immediately surrounding the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds is not safe after dark. I would not under any circumstances use the fairgrounds.
With respect to private campgrounds there is one about 20 miles northwest of downtown Winston-Salem off US 52 near Pinnacle. There are also two private campgrounds close to I-40 between Statesville and Winston-Salem. The park off Highway 52 to the northwest is called Greystone RV Park. I have not been there but it rates well on RV Park Reviews. Pilot Mountain State Park is also off highway 52 near Pinnacle. Its sites have no hookups and are more suited to tent camping and popup campers. Most sites are short and leveling may be an issue for a travel trailer or Class B motorhome. There is a dump station and the campground is nicely wooded.
Tanglewood is much more convenient to town but if you want a private campground these are two options near I40 west of Tanglewood and east of Statesville. One is Lake Myers RV Resort near Mocksville. It is in the Encore and Thousand Trails networks. It has a reputation of being poorly maintained and occupied primarily with permanent residents in run down trailers. The other private park is Midway Camground Resort which is much closer to Statesville on I40 than Winston-Salem. It was a KOA until recently when it became a Good Sam park. The reviews on RV Park Reviews are mixed. I have not been there so I can't speak from experience. In Greensboro I would try Hagan Stone Park, a county park south of the city near Pleasant Garden. In High Point I would go to the campground at Oak Hollow Lake. There really aren't many good campground choices in the area and the county park campgrounds are the best. - mockybirdExplorer
