Campgrounds near Sarasota FL

Since my father in law passed away , I believe we will be making more trips to the area to spend time with mom in law..
We were here this summer and stayed at the encor park in Bradenton, but was not at all impressed with the park.
Does anyone have any nice places to stay right near Sarasota? We looked at a park called Sarasota Sunny today,, it was ok , clean but small.. It was sandwiched in between 2 neighborhoods and the outside sites were accesed by the main road in the neighborhoods...
There has to be other parks that are close and clean???

Im still exploring all the options in Sarasota. We prefer state parks. We stayed at Myakka State Park in November, and loved that. We are staying next November at Oscar Sherer which is actually in town, off 41, near Osprey.

Mike - I took a ride through Manatee River SP this week and there were open sites. Looked like power water and a dump station. Very jungle-like and peaceful.

Yeah, we had reservations there, but it was a bit too far out for us on this trip. We wanted to be closer to Sarasota. 35 miles or so doesn't seem like much, but when you're visiting relatives and going back and forth, it becomes a bit far.

  • FWIW: Oscar Scherar State Park in Osprey/Nokomis worked well for my hubby, when down building our house at Philipi Creek, whilst there staying in the RV, but had to relocate due to limitations on days limit in SPs. He was quite comfortable for the purpose at Sarasota Sunny as well for a month here and there in-between.
  • We are staying at Sun n Fun right now. It is a nice park, that is for sure. But, for me, it is entirely too crowded. We are here because everything is booked this time of year. I think the sites are nice, but very close to each other. Lots and lots of golf carts, kids on bikes and skate boards all over. Head on a swivel driving through there.

If you want to get just a bit away from Sarasota, look at Buttonwood Inlet in Cortez. Right across the bridge from Anna Maria Island and the beaches and an easy drive along the beach to get to St Armand's Circle and downtown Sarasota

My thoughts exactly. 1/2 a mile to Gulf Dr, then you go straight down the island into Armands Circle and Sarasota. Beautiful drive. Sorry about your loss.
  • We've been at Timberlane in Bradenton for 2 weeks and we love it. It's a small (56 sites), quiet park with full hookups. It just opened in February, so it's not in many databases yet. Located on FL64 3/4 miles EAST of I75. Convenient to everything. The residents are a mix of 5th wheelers and motor homes, snow birds and visitors.

The infrastructure is still under construction. The pool and clubhouse are nearly finished and the owners are waiting for permits to develop the back side of the park that will double the number of sites. However, the existing sites are up and running and I haven't seen any infrastructure issues while we've been here.

  • Sun & Fun is the Mac Daddy of RV resorts. Huge, hardly a bad site (that I have seen), lots for adults and kids to do, huge pool, decent WiFi, and convenient to I-75 and stores/restaurants. We like it.
  • OK we stay at Myakka River SP when down there. That's a great SP but not a resort. However last time we went I noticed that there was a big RV resort on the way out there and I suspect it was: Sun-N-Fun RV Resort

The go to resource for RVers looking for a park is RVParkReviews.com and their page on the Sarasota area is:

BTW check out Myakka SP when you are there.
