Sarasota campground

I was looking for a campground around the Sarasota area for a week in April. I seem to be finding a lot of rv parks that are full of park models. Would there be any regular campgrounds in that area? What am I missing here????

Thanks. felt1
  • I've stayed at Sun N' Fun myself. Whatever activity you can think of, they offer. I was visiting friends in the area, so I didn't have time to use most of the facilities. They have FHU sites for RVers and several vacation homes on the property that they rent out for the owners. If you ever wanted to take up lawn bowling, they offer it. The one thing you can't do while there - be bored.
  • Try Timberlane in Bradenton (exit 220) and same area Lake Manatee SP.
  • We too like to stay at Fun and Sun Campground, located on the east side of Sarasota. It is one of the largest campgrounds in Florida, very well run, very popular with snowbirds, clean, everything works as we expect and many activities if a person wishes to get involved. Everything from swimming, two + pools, lawn games, computer club, and the best equipped wood working shop I have every seen at a campground, Powermatic tools, etc.

My MIL lives in Sarasota and this campground makes it easy to drive into town to see her
  • Enjoyed many a time at Oscar Sherar SP. Nicely treed large sites, but right on Tamiami Trail very convenient for Walmart, access to Siesta Key just north of, as well the Jetties, easy trip south to Venice and many other areas. Think it's in Osprey South of Stickney Point and North of Nokomis area if IIRC
  • We just spent a week in Sarasota and stopped by to see Sun N Fun.. It looked like a nice place , busy, but clean. I would stay there the next time in the area..
  • Myakka State park is nice. Been there and like it alot. Another state park we visited, and are planning on camping at is Oscar Sherer. Nice little park. When we can't find a place to stay, we call Sun-N-Fun RV resort. It's a large RV resort, does have the park homes, but do have a lot of camping spots. Make no mistake, it's a RV park, and it's a bit crowded, but we enjoyed it.

  • There are also some nice campgrounds at exit 217 and 220 in Bradenton. Depending on wher you're going in Sarasota these may be convenient for you.
  • If you don't mind being about 20 minutes outside the city, take a look at Myakka River State Park. The Prairie Ridge section is the nicest, and has full hookups. Lots of "stuff" there to do and see...
