Camping Clubs...?

Does anyone belong to Thousand Trails, Passport America, or one of the others?

Is it worth it to belong...buy into...one of them?

If so what are the best two or three to look at?

We've had RVs of one kind or the other for years but have always been working and had no time to use something like that. We have retired early and pick up our new motor home tomorrow. Looking at a few long trips and a bunch of short ones each year.

  • Best advice I could offer is avoid expensive memberships for the first year. Get a feel for the type of camping you enjoy most, ie, commercial and public parks, including Fed/State/City & County. Try a number of them, from resorts, mom and pop parks, to C.O.E. and State Parks. At age 62, the Fed. "geezer" pass will cost $10 and save you 50% at most federal parks. Passport America membership is available for about $44/yr and will save you 50% at participating campgrounds. Just be mindful of each park's restrictions and recognize, it's half price camping. So, don't expect too much. With that experience, you should be able to determine if a campground membership is in your cards. Good luck and travel safe.
  • TT is great if you use it. Cheapest is a zone membership. We also have Passport America at $39 a year and use it when traveling. There are limitations on PPA but we have found some excellent destination parks to use for a few days or week if allowed. But for overnights, pou can get your dues back in no time.
  • Passport America is well worth the money. We bought a lifetime membership and it has paid us back at least tenfold.....
