Camping in Arkansas?

look around greers ferry lake in ak.stayed in a little town called cash ak one time very nice and laid back.

For hurricane Irma, we went to AL to keep our trailer and my father safe. Expecting 15' of storm water surge at our house, we fully expected to be living in our 23'TT for a year or two during rebuilding.
The people at cypress lake rv park in Dozier couldn't have been nicer.
" You don't need a reservation, if you get here, we'll find a space for you ". It is a fairly new park, on lake Gant.
I wouldn't call it woodsy,but we will certainly go back.
It is pretty far out in rural AL. If you want to be close to anything bigger than a very small town, this isn't it.
Worth a look to see if it fits your needs.

Sorry, I must have misread your question to read AL. My recommendation still stands though.

Beaver Lake has several COE campgrounds, up in NW Arkansas near Eureka Springs. Also, Lake Catherine SP, Daisy SP are great spots to camp.

The state of Arkansas has nearly 4,000 federal campsites (NPS, USFS & COE) with 30 amp power, most with water. Water in all campgrounds. Most campgrounds are shady enough to make it a challenge to find a spot where a satellite dish can get a clear signal in the summer. Most are on lakes or rivers.

The primary kayaking location would be the NPS Buffalo Point Campground on the Buffalo National River. The sites are on the river. At last check 47 of the 76 - 50 amp with water sites were reservable at $22 per night regular price. $11 for the senior pass.

JFK COE in Heber Springs is a great campground right below the dam. It is right on the river and offers Great fishing for trout.

How the river is for a Kayak i do not know. So can't help there.

I do know as someone else already mentioned the Buffalo River is the place for Kayak and Canoe trips.

I made the trip down the river once many years ago in a canoe from one of the many outfitters in the area.

I have been to many of the State Parks in Arkansas and have not found a bad one yet. So those would be an option for you also.

Withrow Springs State Park just north of Hunttsville. It has a kayak put in on War Eagle Creek. Not too far from Eureaka Springs.

Petit Jean SP. We stayed there last year and it was a beautiful, well maintained CG. There is a large lake right off one of the CGs...we saw several people kayaking.

We spent a month traveling around AK, staying in state parks and COE campgrounds. Never had a bad experience. Their parks are some of the best we have ever stayed in. Many are on the water, most all of the COE parks are on the water.

There are several COE parks and one SP around Lake Ouachita. We stayed at Tompkins Bend CG. 50 Amp electric but no water at individual campsites. Campsites on the outside of some loops are water front so just paddle from your camp. Lake Ouachita SP has FHU sites. Never got there ourselves. Lake Ouachita has miles of shoreline to paddle around. Check out Street View on Google Maps as they drove through the campground and you can pick which site you like best. Dogs allowed. With driving distance for a day trip to Hot Springs NP. Garvan Woodland Gardens SE of Hot Springs is also worth a visit if you like botanical gardens.

As noted above, the Buffalo National River has some stretches of flat water for kayaking, depending on water level. Park Info Dogs are permitted in CG's, on the river and within 100' of the rivers edge, but not on trails. Must be on leash.

Beaver Lake in NW AR also has several COE CG's. For kayaking, I personally would prefer Lake Ouachita over Beaver Lake as Beaver Lake has a lot more development and houses around it while Ouachita seems a little more natural. But Beaver Lake is near Eureka Springs, worth a day of exploring. Pea Ridge NMP is an interesting Civil Was site I knew nothing about until we stopped there. Crystal Bridges museum in Bentonville has lots of great art and is free. My kind of price and I'm not one to go to art museums anyway but glad I went.
