Camping Near Iowa City/Coralville, IA

Going to visit Mom for her 93rd birthday. Favorite RV Park, Colony, in North Liberty has closed. Prefer full hookups, but electric and water at minimum since we have an animal and humidity is a bear in that part of the world. Looking for recommendations from anyone who has recently stayed in a park near there . Thanks.

  • Probably in the best location but one you could put in your rolodex is BOBBERS POINT! Real close to Sugar Bottom but has a nice little bar and food. Private campground with FHU and easy access sites!
Our biggest complaint was that the golf carts ran all night!
  • Thanks to all for responding to our inquiry. We finally reserved a spot (FHU) at Sugar Bottom CG on Coralville Lake. Sure am sorry Colony closed but the owners, who also owned a bunch of farmland surrounding the park, has sold everything and new houses are going up in droves. Happy for them, sad for the loss of farmland.
  • Thanks to all who responded. Finally got a site (electric and water) at Sugar Bottom Campground, Coralville Lake Complex. Really liked the look of F.W. Kent but it was first come, first served. Again, thanks.
  • There is F. W. Kent Johnson County Park in Tiffin about 19 miles northwest. 50 amp electric but no water or sewer at site. If you can get buy on tanks and add water and go to dump station, it looks like a nice option. Gets good reviews.
  • Sorry to hear Colony closed. :( The owner, when we were there, was an older gentleman; perhaps he (or his heirs?) couldn't find a new owner? We haven't recently been there, but have you tried the COE parks off the Coralville exit? They looked wooded & nice. Mostly electric sites, but a few FHUs; seems it's tough to reserve the latter online. The only other place we tried in that area was one in West Liberty, a former KOA behind a gas station. It was ok, nothing to write home about. According to rvparkreviews, it was open last year as Little Bear CG, rated "average."
