Chance of finding a cheap site in Palm area in November?

I can get in Carefree at 111/Jefferson without much notice, but it ain't no $350/mo!

You need to be very careful choosing a place in the "Palm Springs" area. The parts Palm Springs and the Coachella valley that tourist frequent are fabulous. The metro area, however has an extensive underbelly that isn't so nice and that underbelly has an underbelly that I wouldn't send my enemies into.
On top of that, the weather conditions will vary greatly within short distances. High winds and dust storms are common in the wind tunnel areas, while a mile away, on the south side of the interstate, it is calm and pleasant. I would be very afraid of a $350.00 a month site with seeing it first.

November is doable because most snowbirds come after Christmas. But $350+ electric will be hard to find. Have you looked at Desert Hot Springs?

The places I was looking at are in small towns north of the interstate. Too windy?

I don't mind, in fact I feel more comfortable in, poor neighborhoods/parks. But poor and safe, not poor and unsafe. I do look at google street view, but that does not tell everything.

Anybody have recommendations?

I like Lake Cahuilla County park.

It can get real windy anywhere in that area, but it's worse around Cabazon.. near the funnel area. Wind turbines galore.

I need a place walking distance to groceries, where I can stay 3-6 months. Google maps says there are not groceries that close to Lake Cahuilla -- is this correct?

Correct. You may find it's difficult to get that anywhere. I can walk 1.5mi to Ralph's from 111/Jeff, but I'm not carrying a lot of provisions. How much shopping can you do on foot?

Just remember that is the High Desert,about 3500 ft., and it can get Quite Cool and windy in the winter.

Had snow flurries one Thanksgiving.

1.5 miles is ok. I do all my shopping this way, even at my S&B.
