- rexlionExplorerThe drive from Durango north to Ridgway, west to Telluride has some spectacular mountain scenery. Take the jeep tour down the switchback road into Telluride, if you're brave enough.
Wolf Creek Pass area is also beautiful. At the top of the pass turn W onto the gravel road to lobo overlook, high above the pass. See the overlook on the south side of the pass, as well as Treasure Falls. Get directions to Silver Falls too, if you have a suitable vehicle (rough road, about 8 miles E off the highway along the East Fork). - Parrothead_MikeExplorerI agree with the Durango to Ridgway State Park. It is a beautiful ride, although a bit edgy with the elevation changes and curves. We did it in 2011 and glad we did. Ridgway has some nice short hiking trails. If in this area be sure to check out Telluride, it's a beautiful little ski & old time mining town.
Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park is a beautiful park. Lots to see and do. Excellent views and decent campgrounds. There are hiking trails too. I backpacked there back in the 70's and you can go long or short.
Mesa Verde in SW Colorado is an interesting trip. The cliff dwellings and history are very nice and it's a totally differnt environment than Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park. - LaurenExplorerMake sure you read about Hwy 550 between Silverton and Ouray (aka Red Mountain Pass / Million Dollar Hwy) before you attempt it with an RV - go to Search. Most will tell you it is beautiful but do it with your toad or tv and not the rig - I agree. There is a great alternative route.
We will be back in Ouray again in Sept. Also Buena Vista / Leadville area, Montrose and Mancos. Hope we hit the aspens right! - Turn_KeyExplorerHere's some links to our '06 trip to Colorado. Great trip! Have some time if you want to read it all.
Happy Camping!

I personally love Colorado and there is way too much to do to properly adivse here without taking pages. I suggest Colorado's Tourism website where you'll find a ton of material to help you decide. That's what we do when visiting someplace for the first time. Good luck.
- DesertHawkExplorerWhat I have Posted on Colorado.
- Dadio24Explorer(X2 with Bipeflier)I have been going to CO for years. RMNP is a must, best in Sept for the elk bugling, then SW to South Fork, Creede, Pagosa Springs, Durango, Silverton and beyond. A few days just west of South Fork at Fun Valley Family Resort. Lots of people, young and old. Packed from June 20th to July 15th, so any time before or after it is good. My kids loved it at that age and made a great spot for day trips to most SW Colorado sites. River Rafting in Creede @ Mountain Man (they cater to families and are very safe). I could go on and on about SW CO. PM me and I can discuss more places for the kids...have fun and we may cross paths this summer.
- dapperdanExplorerIf you're going to be near Silverton and or Durango a stop at Cortez for Mesa Verde would be nice to see too.
Like the others have stated, some many places, some many things to see. Totally agree with the guy who said pretty much everything west of I25.
Dan - Sooner_SchoonerExplorerJust go to Canon City and stay at Mountain View RV Resort. You will be 1 mile from the Royal Gorge, close to Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, The Bishop's Castle, Cripplecreek, and many other attractions. Your welcome...enjoy!
- Ron_ButlerExplorerWe spent June - Aug. '09 criss-crossing that state.
Rocky Mt. NP is a must. Their state parks are all super facilities, but you will probably want reservations if your there during the summer. They are among some of the best we have ever stayed in.
The Incline Railroad up to Pikes Peak is great fun. Take the drive - in your care, NOT the RV - up Mt. Evans. Mountain goats and sheep everywhere.
The advice we got was to stop in one spot and then wagon wheel out from there with your car. Much easier to do that because of the mountains and then move yourself to the next hub and repeat.
See our hotlinks for our travel blog and pictures of our time there. We enjoyed it all. The only short-coming, LACK OF OXYGEN!! :B:B
