Crater Lake/Mazama Campground

Anyone with recent stay at Mazama Campground in Crater Lake Park? It has been at least 22 years since we have been there.

For several reasons DW doesn't like not having cell phone access, AT&T. When I told her there likely wouldn't be phone coverage in the park she is ready to nix the visit. Can someone confirm?

Option might be going to Diamond Lake RV, doubtful for coverage, or Collier State Park which I am sure would have coverage.

I suggested tossing our phones for the trip...That was the wrong thing to say.:E
  • We are planning a weeklong visit to Crater Lake in mid-September. I want full hook-ups so I don't have to worry about draining the batteries keeping the coach's interior comfortable. After doing some research, I decided on this park - http://www.prospectrvpark.com/index.php. I especially loved the rvparkreview where they received a 1. The park apparently doesn't allow boom boxes. Icing on the cake!
  • Another vote for Collier State Park. Good Verizon coverage; not sure about AT&T. I've also stayed at Joseph Stewart & liked the campground - good AT&T coverage, slow 1X for Verizon.

If you continue West on OR 138, be sure to check out Susan Creek BLM campground near Glide. A great location for seeing the many waterfalls along OR 138. Beautiful location; no hookups, but hot showers.

I love Collier State Park. All the amenities and they even have satellite coverage in some camp spots. I was just there two months ago. I don't care for the national park I also don't care for Diamond Lake RV just too commercialized. I tell you Collier is the place. Oregon State Parks are next to none.

X2 Great campground and a nice logging museum. Right on the river. I don't remember about cell phone coverage.
  • Mazama Campground two years ago was just ok very tight spots not well maintained DW saw a rice cooker plugged in in the bathroom on the floor next to one of the stalls. OK for
one night to be able to go to and take the Crater Lake tour come back and to leave the next morning but that is it no more no less IMHO
  • There's 4g with Verizon at Diamond Lake. Was just there several weeks ago as well as last thur. Can't help with AT&T. Can say this though that we were camped last Sun, Mon and Tues near Sweethome, Or and a one guy had AT&T and could get any cell signal. All of us with Verizon had 3G-4G.
  • Collier or Stewart would be the places that would have coverage for sure--just depends on which side of the Casacades you will be staying.
  • We had a very pleasant visit to Diamond Lake RV Park last Summer, but I can't remember about phone connection. We have Verizon and I THINK we did have service, but I cannot give that as an assurance.

BUT, we would have not hesitation to go back there for a visist to Crater Lake.
