Doing the Assateague State park dance!

I am sitting here doing the happy dance because I was able to finally snag one of the hard to get "electric" sites (loop H) for next year the week after Labor Day at Assateague. My only complaint is that that the Reserve America site really makes the bucks! Not only do they make you pay for your reservation in full (collecting interest on all those ressies for a year in my case!) but then they add a more than $30 fee for the week! Cha-ching!:( Anyway, being able to camp along the dunes is worth it!
  • Nice!
We were just there for 5 nights. It was amazing, but I can't imagine staying there without electricity. Holy hot batman!
  • I can only find " no hookup" sites at Assateague national park. What I'm I doing wrong?

There's also a Maryland State Park that has one loop with electric, and bathhouses with hot showers throughout the campground.

That's not an insignificant fee, but the Maryland State Parks do give a lot of folks a break by making their Senior Pass ($10 lifetime) available to out-of-state residents. Half-price camping Sunday - Thursday, which makes Assateague a bargain, even with the reservation fees.

Okay. I found it. It's in the state park. Not the National.
  • $30 seems pretty excessive for a reservation fee unless you made more than one reservation, and that fee is determined by the State Park. Each state has different fees (and some have none) so you cannot blame it all on Reserve America. Yes RA charges the states a fee and some just pass it on, some add to it and some pay it themselves.
  • Yes I really do love going to the shore, LOL. Here in Jersey there are no campgrounds directly on the beaches so when at Assateague we love walking right out onto the sand, and absolutely love hearing the ocean all night, not to mention the wild ponies. For what it is worth, we have also visited the Smokey Mountains the Blue Ridge Mountains. They were really beautiful places to see but for some reason being at the shore has always been our happy place where we can truly relax! Still dancing!!!
  • You live in Cape May and you're excited about going to the shore? Okay :)
