Draper Utah Good Sam Park

Draper Utah Good Sam RV park is greatly overrated. It is rated a 9.5 and should be a 4 or 5. I've stayed at many Good Sam parks and the ratings are usually right on, however this park needs to be revised. The reasons are:

1. There are many long termers some of who seem very shady, if you have kids keep an eye on them.
2. When you enter the park on the left side are many long termers and in the aisle where we were parked there were more, a lot. Some of the trailers seemed old and not well maintained. This should definitely affect the appeal rating. In addition, Several of these individuals just keep staring at my family as if they were casing us out, perhaps not but it made my wife and daughters(8,and 12) feel very uncomfortable about going outside. I will not allow them to ride their bikes in this park freely as others.
3. If you have a trailer longer than 25 feet(ours is 32) then you will have a very difficult time getting it into a space. The roads on some off the areas in the park are very narrow and cars parked in the narrow roads blocked entry to our space. Fortunately the space across the road to us was open and if not we could not of gotten in.
4. Sites are very close to each other. When I went to hook up my sewer line the opening was under the slide out of my neighbor and I had to crawl under his slide out to hook up. When I went to open my slide out it almost hit my neighbors. This park seemed to be designed with the intent of making as much money as possible due to the tight spaces. Of course there seemed to be some sites that had bigger spaces, but for the most part this is not the case of the overall park.
  • I sure wish people would take a couple of minutes and learn how Good Sam rates a park before they go barking that the ratings are wrong. Good Sam rates the parks, not the guests, so shady residents do not figure into the ratings. They are there to rate the park, not the age and condition of the resident RVs. And I am also sure that people looking at you is not a deduction either.
  • We have family in the area and have stayed in this park many times, since it is the only one close. (There is a KOA near downtown SLC.)

Agree with some of the OP's points. Some of the sites are unusable for a large rig, but we now have a map and always know what sites to request. The office staff are usually good about this.
For a first time overnighter, it can be a memorable experience.

Don't agree about the people. We have never felt unsafe. But there ARE all kinds, as you might expect in a large urban setting.

On the good side, there is a large dog walk area.
  • What is the name of this park you're talking about. Wouldn't happen to be Shadow Mountain would it? If so, we've stayed there several times in both our 26' trailer and 36 motor home. Some of the spaces are a little small, as this is an older park that wasn't designed for big rigs, but completely doable in our 36 mh.

We did have some problems getting out, as the drainage dip on the side of the roads causes the tail of the motor home to drag....it was easier to back out the way we pulled into the site.

Yes, there were cars/trucks in the roadway that hampered entry/exiting....but we just ask them to move for a few minutes and never had a problem. Everyone we met there were friendly and helpful.

One problem (other than the drainage problem) we encountered was that there are a lot of cotton wood trees there and they shed all over the place. I had to get up on the roof and sweep off the slide out tops before bringing them in.

Personally, I kindly liked the place, but I seriously doubt if we would stay there in our new 43 footer.

    X2.

Anymore I consult rvparkreviews before booking. Having said that I try to be careful and look over a large cross-section of reviews and it depends, to a certain extent, if I'm looking for an overnight or a place to hang out for several days. Even the best of parks will not please everybody all of the time.
