Today propane in Yuma was $2.25 a gallon. If we use $0.15 per kWH for Yuma we get $4.05.

The refrigerator and water heater will have about the same efficiency for both electric and propane.

If you heat with a good space heater electric is 100% efficient where as a propane furnace will be about 65% efficient.

It is clear it is cheaper to run the refrigerator and water heater on propane.

Even with the efficiency hit with a propane furnace propane will cost about $3.46 to equal 27kWH of electric heat at $4.05.

So if in Yuma do everything on propane that you can.

While not Yuma, we paid 15 cents/KWH to the resort in Borrego Springs last January, just because I was bored I read the meter daily and checked what I was consuming, it ranged between $3 and $5 per day depending on the temperature and if we used the washer/dryer. I did a calculation and it was cheaper to heat by electricity than propane so that did increase our usage. It may be cheaper to use propane heating in Yuma at $2.15 per gallon for propane though

If you're trying to save some money then let me echo the "run fridge on propane." Years ago I decided to run the RV fridge all summer. When I got the first months bill it was $30 greater then other months. I figured the main fridge was failing and needed replacement (since it was getting loud.)

We replace that fridge with no change in the monthly bill. I went out and bought a Kill-a Watt unit and tried to track down the problem.

Took awhile to find it, but it turned out to be the RV's absorption fridge. That is a very inefficient design, and was costing $1/day to run on electric.

To lower the bill somewhat, turn off your electric hot water heater and turn it on only when you need it for dishes, showers. It only takes minutes to heat up. Also, consider a propane heater instead of the furnace - much more efficient. Run your refrigerator on propane if propane is cheaper there. Finally, do you really need that extra refrigerator in the shed?

In Jan. of 2008, we were at a resort in Yuma and had an electric bill of $158 (one month). We paid .18/kilowatt. Never came close to that before or after at any other resort. We spend most of our winters in Florida and the resorts there can only charge the camper what the power company charges the resort. Apparently not so in Arizona. We do have an electric fireplace which we use a lot, especially in Arizona where the evenings are cold.

In my case the power cost per KWH is only 39% of the bill, all the rest of the charges amount to 61% of the bill. Some of these are fixed charges per month, others vary according to the amount of KWH used. That is why the cost is never the same for any one address. My cost this last month equaled .1512158 per KWH. I used a total of 329 KWH's from Nov5th to Dec 5th. This powered the refrigerator, some air-conditioning and any other 110 volts systems. We have Aqua Hot so that is run by diesel. Our lights(LED's) are run off the batteries which are charged by solar. I am able to put my battery charger on "Standby" so it will NOT charge the battery.

Wow, at home with a pool filter, pumping our own water, we just got a bill for $60 for two months. We used 431 Kwhs in two months (we're billed every two months). We use LEDs through out the house, pool, and yard. Our heat is LP in cylinders and we use radiant heat and electric blankets under our mattress pad. We use highwall a/c units so we cool one room at a time. I read my meter daily. We can only use 13 kwhs per day or we will be charged the commercial rate.

I don't think we do without. Turn off the lights, lower the heat. We just left our rv park after three months. The last month was $17 but we use solar as much as possible.

From all of the information you have given us you are paying 13.12 cents a kWH.

Providing there was not a meter reading error I would not complain. I paid 14.01 cents a kWH last month at my home in Yuma.

If you are able to read the meter it may pay to do so in case there is meter reading problems. Back before the electronic meters I have had even the power company misread one of the older dial type meters.

But in Yuma I suspect you are on an electronic meter and APS does not need to send a meter reader anymore. The reading is send back to APS via your power connection.
