Elkmont Campground, GSNP

This campground only accepts walk-ins During the month of November, and apparently does not have an active telephone line to check general availability. (The number for the Campground accepts messages for folks needing ADA sites... so I hesitate to leave a message when I don't need those requirements).

Anyone know how packed this campground is during off-season.
In Knoxville and Elkmont looks like good weather this weekend (60's) so thinking about driving up. Just don't want to make that trip
if the place gets packed up.

Anyone with experience camping up there in November, would appreciate insight as to what I need to be prepared for. Camping with a Class C, and of course would want a river site in Section D...

Thanks.
  • we were there the last weekend in Oct, peak time for leaf peepers, and still half the sites were open.

I would think you would be OK just showing up, and this is coming from a reservation freak.
  • We wre in Gatlinburg last week. We drove thru Elkmont on Friday to check out the campsites. There were around a dozen tents and 1/2 dozen trailers there at that time. Plenty of open sites.
  • We have been there several times during the off-season, not camping, just driving through and there have always been a few there, but no where near fullish. We were there last Thanksgiving and there were probably half the sites empty. I can't see this weekend being any fuller than Thanksgiving week.
