End of an Era

George,
I have read and recommended your blog for a long time.
You are still an inspiration for us faux RV-er's, whether you are on the road or not. You see, it's the little truths in your blog legacy that keeps on keeping on. For instance, your perspective on stealth camping and finding a place for the night for Madame Tioga and yourself. No one in the universe has written as eloquently about this small phase of RV-ing.
Good luck in the future. I think you got it right.
Everyone needs a hero. You happen to be one to many.
After 12 years of part-time TC-ing I can see the dark at the end of the travel tunnel for Jeanie and I. Time waits for no man.

Wow! The tears rolled as I watched your video A Tour of Ms Tioga and even as I sit and write this tonight. I remember when I first found your blog and the excitement I felt waking up every morning, grabbing my cup of coffee and wondering where George and Ms. Tioga would take us today. I'd always check in knowing you'd update throughout the day and even spent many hours going back to re-read prior posts. Over the years your life took a different road and I took a break from the RV world but I always checked up on you to see how life was treating you and Ms Tioga.

I remember seeing one of your posts and how close you were, so we jumped in the car and headed out searching. Unfortunately I missed you by 30 min. in Gila Bend, Az. I still hoped I could share a cup of coffee with you but you went south and I went north. So close!

George I've always wished you well and even now as the new chapter unfolds. Thank you for sharing your blog and your life through the good and the bad. Also for leaving your blog available so we softies can reminisce.

Life is not a destination, it's a journey. One door closes, another opens.

George, so glad you posted. I wish you many new adventures wherever and however life takes you on your journey now. Thank you for your posts over the years. I feel like you have been a friend, although we have never met. Be safe and be at peace.

I knew for a few years before the dreadful event that destroyed MsTioga, that my time as an RVer were coming to an end. When I could no longer go safely on MsTioga's roof because of balancing issues, the decision to reduce traveling became clearer.

But, the death of my son David in 2010 really ended my life as an RVer. Up until then, my travels were a giant sort of circular route, always thru the City of Concord, California to stay at David's home. After David died, I lost my home base at his home. His death really knocked me over emotionally.

What happened to me after David's death, was a combination of loss of family and aging. With aging, I could no longer endure the physical demands that traveling as an RVer required. And loss of family took away from me the spark of energy which I apparently needed to keep on traveling.

It seems to me now, looking backward at what happened, that the trick is to keep doing the traveling life which I loved. I followed George for years, while he was in the U.S., and he was my RVing "hero". Even boondocked at a couple of places that were in his log. Had a nice visit with him when he was in my area and bought him a hamburger. :)

Haven't read about his heart attack, yet, but very glad he survived it. Hope he lasts many more years "off the road".

It was time! While I enjoyed some of his adventures, his information was not always accurate. In the last few years he was getting more & more undependable / questionable, trying to be kind! Big question is, who will fill his shoes for exploring the out of the way locations in Mexico?

Everyone has to come off the road eventually. Am just glad his RV protected him so he wasn't killed or injured badly when he had his heart attack.
