The Natl Park sites have no hookups so if you are not staying inside the park then a good choice is to stay at the campgrounds in TOWNSEND. This gets you away from all of the tourist attractions and is very close to a Natl Park entrance.
The Townsend entrance is very close to the CADES COVE Nature motor trail which is a big attraction to see and do inside the Park.
We always stay at ELKMONT CAMP inside the park and do our grocery and supplies shopping at Townsend. The camp sites inside the park all have central rest room bldgs and water spigot available for fresh water... There is firewood available at the inside camp store but this is usually only open for business a few hours in the late afternoon. You can buy firewood at Townsend if you are camping inside the park...
Lots of trails to hike and several water fall sites to see inside the park. Plenty of wildlife to see as well especially at the Cades Cove trail run if you do it late in the afternoon and early evening when it starts getting dark.
Smoky Mtns is one of our Favorite places to go...
