Hello to everyone, hope Camping this Summer has been FUN, anyway, looking for some nice RV Campgrounds around or very near to the Great Smoky Mountains,Tn, would like to see some Autumn colors and enjoy the cool weather, any help would be great, Thanks to ALL who reply. Wolf3gang

We always like to stay in Townsend TN. when we go for the fall colors. It's called the quiet side of the mountains. It's out from all the hustle and bustle but a short drive to it all. Tremont Campground isn't bad but it can be expensive. There is a craftsman fair in Gatlinburg during Oct.

Hi Wolf:What is your idea of a nice campground? CG store important to you? Pool? Location? Scenery?Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge has a little of just about everything you're looking for. If Fall camping in the area for the 1st time and traffic gets you a little crazy -- bring lots of pills. Colors can be okay and 48hrs later can be dazzling or gone if heavy rain/wind comes thru. If you want out-of-the-way but not remote and don't need lots of amenities you can try "Camping in the Smokies" out 321 from Gatlinburg and a favorite with the Crafters in town for the show. If you like amenities "River Plantation" just outside of PF is nice but traffic can be staggering. If you like nice camp sites with some room and privacy and don't need pool or bath houses the best in class is called "Up the Creek" out 321 in PF and away from traffic.

This is where I would go. Lots of mountain roads that are not even close to being as congested as the Tenn. roads.gorvresort

I will join MarkieMark and say that we LOVE Pine Mountain which has FHU, plus an indoor pool and hot tub. Those can be great in the fall when the temps get cooler. You can avoid most of the traffic going in to Pine Mtn. (If you decide on this, PM me for directions).Elkmont and Smokemont are also wonderful, but we have decided that we like some hookups. If you are just wanting to see the colors and not the traffic or other hubub, check out Natural Tunnel SP in Virginia. Some beautiful scenery, 17 miles from the TN border, within easy driving of lots of nice mountains for viewing of the leafing season.

We stayed at Pine Mountain in June. Very nice, it is a newer campground. Not a ton to do right at the campground but you can walk down the hill to hop on the trolley. There is a nice pool and you can go to the hotel across the street and use their indoor and outdoor pools and they also have a lazy river.

We have also taken our two dogs to Pine Mountain and never had a problem. We go for Thanksgiving almost every year.

Yes Pine Mountain is pet friendly. We bring our Aussie with us each time we stay. We go every Christmas. Can't wait.

Can anyone tell me if the Pine Mountain CG is pet friendly? I don't see any mention of it on their site. Thanks!

Like ken56, we recently stayed at Anchors Down RV Resort. Simply awesome views of Douglas Lakes from all sites (they are terraced}.It is just outside of Sevierville and all the action of nearby Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. All the amenities you'd expect of a true "resort". This is our new favorite in that area. Check it out.

We'll stay at one of those next time. We hit a busy week when we were there and Lazy Daze was the only campground in Townsend that had a spot for all the days we were there.

There are so many campgrounds in this area it all depends on what you like. There is a new CG on TN 138 called Anchor Down. Opened this past March and it is Beautiful, located on Douglas lake and the views are stunning. Look them up on line. Another one we just looked at this past weekend is Smokey Mountain Premier resort (smprvresort.com)located on 321 near Cosby TN, Just opened like 3 weeks ago and can accommodate from class A to pop ups. BUT.... they are still working on it so there is some construction traffic (big dump trucks). Nice though. Both are located far enough from the craziness of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg to make for a nice drive in to visit them if you want.

We like the Jellystone in Cosby TN. If you need FHU, this is the place.
