They don't allow you to feed or aggravate the alligators...that includes walking your dog at night or allowing them outside. We had two visit while I was barbquing, (sp) and my dog wouldn't back down. After the second night we left.
You do realize you are NOT on the ocean. The park surrounds several small canals that run inland. The ocean is several miles away by car...Dennis
The ocean is actually 5 minutes away by bicycle. I don't know how you traveled for it to be "several miles" ! :E
We've walked to the beach from our campsite. It certainly wasn't 'miles'. - Johno02ExplorerWhile we were there early March this year, WIFI was limited to one router in the community building. Wifi antennas all over the place, strong wifi signals, but no internet connection. Inquiries about if and or when it would be working resulted in "probably never". Otherwise, we really liked it, bit alligators could be a problem.

Hi ljr, by saying, I roam around a bit. Do you mean around the coastal areas? What other area would you recommend? I like to explore and try new areas.

My winter stomping grounds are from roughly Corpus Cristi to Savannah.
My favorites in that general area are...
Magnolia Branch Wildlife Reserve, Atmore, AL
It belongs to the Creek Indians. No ocean but a creek and a lake with tubing and zip lining. They have some huge, FHU, lakefront sites.
Buccaneer State Park, Waveland, MS
Not on the beach but within a long walk or a short drive of it. They have an amazing water park with slides and a wave pool. Katrina wiped it out so everything is new since then.
They both have monthly off season rates but the water attractions are closed. I spend a month or so at both most Winters. - woodworker414ExplorerThanks for the info ljr. I will put the info on my save list
- 1971duster340ExplorerHi Bill
My PC went Silent Key in July. I think most of your questions were answered and you might be sitting in Gulf Shores right now.woodworker414 wrote:
Hi 1970duster340. Are the alligators a problem? Is there things that I neeed to be aware of with these critter around? Do they like to campout under the rig?
I haven't seen any gators, but the brush areas look like their habitat. YL did see a cottonmouth in a public area our last stay. With so much people movement, vehicles, pets, noise, etc., I wouldn't think much wildlife would be in the populated areas for long.I can't remember, are the pads paved with blacktop? If so should I have wooden pads under the leveling leg pads?
Most are blacktop...a pad under levelers is optional. Everything seems to have a good sub-base. I try to get one of the 470-494 sites...the extreme West portion. I can't say I've biked all the camping roads yet. When a Snowbird needs LP, do you have to unhook and go to a LP dealer for a refill or does a dealer come to the campground?
Maybe a call to the Park for that one.I have been to Gulf Shores a few times. I know there is a lot to do in the region. Does the park have any activities? If so, what kind?
Any other info that you think I could use, send it. If there are links, websites with info, let me know.
I think you'll get the idea here....Thanks a lot. Rally looking forward to being there.

Sure...wish I was there right now
