Franklin NC. Gem capital of the US. Waterfalls galore. Pan for rubies and sapphires. I found a 199 caret grey sapphire two years ago. Helen Georgia south about an hour. Underground waterfall 3 hours west. Appalachian trail will be your neighbor. About this time of year some of the damns are opened for some white water rafting. Small town atmosphere where yes sir and no sir is common.
