- Robbies_grandpaExplorerHickison Petroglyph Recreation Area is free, in the middle of Nevada and a very interesting place to stay. Usually only 1 or 2 other campers and nice petroglyphs to look at. Near Bob Scott. We have stayed there twice.
- 4runnerguyExplorerThe two places we frequent are Bob Scott, mentioned before, and Cave Lake SP just SE of Ely. Cave Lake seems to be where we end up most, and being up in the hills a little, it is cooler.

X2 for Bob Scott. Small campground but nice. I don't know if they have turned the water off for the year. Site ten is huge. we easily fit our 31ft MH and our sons 23ft TT and truck into it and had room to spare. We spent four days there earlier this year. East of there is a petroglyph site. There is a dry campground there as well. Wave at us as you go through Fallon. I hope you have a great trip. - nevadanickExplorerJust pull off anywhere you want unless you need hookups.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIIf you have a big rig (the size isn't in your signature), then don't try for Bob Scott. We barely fit in the biggest site they had with our 40'.
There is a BLM campground at Hickison Petroglyph Rec Area just east of Austin that would take a 35' rig. There's also a rest area just beyond Hickison to the east and one at Eureka.
Your best bet is to stay around Fernley/Fallon area and head east and then another stop at Ely. There really isn't much inbetween unless you spot a place along side of the road for boondocking.
For fuel, the only places for easy access for a big rig would be in Fallon or Ely.
It's a beautiful drive but like it's slogan, it is lonely. Enjoy! - IDmanExplorerEast of Austin is a small USFS CG with about 8-9 spaces. I think it is Bob Scott CG. - Tin-benderExplorerYou said your looking for someplace in the "middle" of Nevada, folks gave plenty of mention of both edges of Nevada but nobody mentioned anything in the middle.
That's because there really isn't anything in the middle. Austin offers some spots in the church parking lot or there is some spots near the auto wrecking yard. Just east of Austin up on the mountain top is a state park, Bob Scott if memory serves, that isn't bad at all. no hookups but quiet.
Tinbender - cochise49ExplorerValley View RV park in Ely. KOA also good. Prospector is handy with restaurant on site. It also has slots and a bar. Great food. Valley View is quiet. VV and Prospector are on US50. KOA on US6.
