Hocking Hills State Park / Ohio Question

Going over July 4th weekend. Want to do many of the hikes on the various trails, to the caves, etc. Actually, doing the research now so don't know which specific ones yet.

We have a class C. Trying to decide if we need to drive a separate car or if bikes are OK.

So, for those who have been there & know, is it possible to go from the Hocking Hills State Park campground via bike to the trailheads or would a car be better.

We have 12 & 9 year olds if that matters.

Thanks!

  • We were there from Sun. late PM until Thur. AM. Spent M,T,W exploring the park. We did it quite leisurely and saw each of the sites-Ash Cave, gorge and rim, Cedar Falls, Old Man's Cave(twice) Conkles Hollow(make sure you go past where the paved trail ends, that's the best part, didn't do Conkle's Hollow rim trail-was about 200+ steps to go up to it then back down, too much work, Rock House, but Cantwell Cliffs were closed for trail work. Had a TON of rain Sun night, so all the waterfalls were really a great sight. We've had lots of rain for the last several days-supposed to continue for the next couple also-so the waterfalls should be really great. Some muddy spots on the trails though. We still had time to relax by campfire, go to Walmart & Radio Shack in Logan. So if you get there early Thursday you should have plenty of time to see it all(Old Man's Cave is right beside the CG, so you could probably get it in Thur. and do the rest the next couple days.) You'll have a blast. Hard to believe there are formations like this just down the road from Columbus. We're only a couple hours away and didn't realize what a great trip it would be so close to home. • Make sure you don't skip anything! Soooo many great trails and sites in the area to see! x2 on the car
  • Gary - Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. That solves that. One class C + one car is on the docket. By the way, I might be younger but I'll admit I'm somewhat lazy! Hiking for a day then biking up a step hill doesn't sound like a good time to me! Thanks again.
  • We were there just after Memorial Day. We took our TC and DW drove seperately. The area is VERY hilly. The checkin office at Old Man's Cave Campground is in a valley and the campground is up a rather steep, long hill. Sure would hate to ride up there after a day of hiking. We went to all the sites in the park, Old man's cave, Ash Cave, rock house, Cedar Falls, etc. They are all several miles from Old Man's Cave CG and the roads are windy and hilly(but extremely scenic). Well worth the trip but I don't think I would bicycle there-but then again I'm probably several years older than you. Gary
