I10 RV Park - Benson AZ

DW and wanted an easy off easy on park in Benson for one night. I like the park - large level sites, good power and water. Good internet for $2 per night. All positive stuff for an overnight stop.

The place was < 20% full.

We had a very slow breakfast at the Denny's across the street - recommended by the manager who had been quite nice on check-in.

We were packing up to leave when about 5 to 11 said manager came to our door and said to DW "I see you're staying" with a somewhat edgy voice. She replied "No, we're just packing up to leave". He said in a now testy voice "Hurry up - check-out is 11am. Let's go!". We were gone by 11:10.

I know we were late - we hadn't even checked the info sheet for departure time because the park was so empty. I've been to many many parks and there's never been an issue with being a few minutes past the nominal checkout time. I don't understand why he did what he did but I'm never going back there.

  • Yeah, he made a big deal about the sewer hose when we checked in but we didn't hook up water or sewer - just power and cable TV.
  • Probably empty as everyone was staying at the SKP park...not an easy on/off I-10...but they are farther away from the train tracks and road noise. Next time we may try Butterfield as I've heard good things about them. I believe they have an observatory if you're interested in star gazing...some of the blackest night sky I've ever seen.
  • We like Pato Blanco Lakes and stay there for a stop before we cross the mountain on the way to Cruces. If you were staying longer they a couple of nights you may want to take some time to level. It can be a bit of a challenge in some sites.
  • We stay at Butterfield in Benson.

Friend of ours used to manage it.

Sewer hose deal is a county ordinance he has told us. They had the same rule there.

But he was nice about it! :-)
  • If you really want to upset them - try letting your sewer hose touch the ground.
You must at all times have those supports under the hose to keep it off their obviously pristene gravel.
